Methuen parents tell school their girl is now a boy
Boston Herald ^ | Saturday, March 5, 2005 | Casey Ross

A Methuen fourth-grader who was attending school as a girl before February break has come back to school as a boy.
The parents of the 9-year-old said their child was born with the body of a girl but the brain of a boy and has struggled with identity from an early age.
The unidentified parents are now asking school officials to instruct teachers and students to refer to the child as a boy and begin using a new name to address him. The student has been attending the elementary school since first grade.
The sudden change in the child's sexual identity has generated some concerned calls to the school, but administrators said they intend to comply with the parents' request, according to the Eagle-Tribune of Lawrence.
There are about 1,200 students in the elementary school, with nearly 150 in fourth grade. So far, school officials said, students are adjusting well to the change.
The mother of the child said the decision to change the child's identity came after lengthy consultations with medical professionals. She said the child's condition is the result of a birth defect that causes the body to develop as one gender, while the brain is hardwired for another.
The mother said the child began identifying as a boy at an early age and became so insistant that she and her husband sought medical help. The child has not undergone any medical procedure to change sexes.

No, it is a well documented medical phenomenomenomenenon blah blah blah

And all this time I've been thinking that a y chromesome (and the resulting anatomical features) determined gender.

I don't mean to be callous but this sounds like so much psycho-babble to me. >>

Psycho-babble is as psycho-babble does.

And being rigorously honest and speaking the Truth is being as objective as it's possible to be.

Objectivity has no emotional component and is thus never "callous."

And nor are you!

I was refering to the observed brain structures, such as they cite in this study, not actual behavior.

For example, teaching a child how to play a musical instrument before they turn age five results in a thicker corpus colasem, which would give males the appearance of a more female-type brain.

You are thinking of hermaphrodite. Bisexual is a psychological disturbance.

I think you are wrong. What they mean by a female with a male brain is a female that is smart.

speaking of brain differences, remember the study that said that men are better map readers than women, women tend to navigate by landmarks, which I am sorry that is so true though as a woman I feel I can read a map pretty well, I had to with my first real job, esp if I map out my destination before I go and Yahoo MapQuest is great to get you going where you need to go if you've never been there before, but I know that is how I describe directions to others, I use landmarks

well they found that homosexual males tend to have the same navigational skills or lack thereof that women do, LOL

not necessarily

it is not the Y chromosome per se, the Y chromosome controls the production of testosterone,

if for any of many reasons the production of testosterone is interfered with or goes haywire in the crucial development stage of a fetus you have problems

and then you have those other chromosomal abnormalities, being born an XXY or an XYY, they say that violent offenders tend to have the extra Y chromosome, which makes sense because testosterone makes you aggressive....I can't remember what happens if you are born an XXY

Artfully concocted gender vagueries aside, what locker room is this Methuen fourth-grade girl now declared boy going to use. I'm sure this she-on-the-outside, he-on-the-inside deserves some sympathy, but 70 some fouth grade boys standing around the shower are only going to see the outside - whether she gets to be called Bob or not.

You're right. As soon as I posted it, I wanted to break one of my two fingers for such a post. The problem here is how their brains are wired.

The parents are preparing her for homosexual indoctrination. If they treat her like the other boys, she will grow up attracted to men. Reverse psychos!
