By WAYNE PARRY The Associated Press

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The upstairs neighbor of an Egyptian Christian family found slain in their home in January was charged Friday, along with another man, in the murders.

Edward McDonald, 25, who rented a second-floor apartment above Hossam Armanious and his family, pleaded not guilty to four counts of felony murder. Hamilton Sanchez, 30, faces the same charges and also pleaded not guilty.

Sanchez during a court hearing began crying as he stood before a judge, his hands cuffed behind his back.

"I didn't kill nobody. I didn't kill nobody, man. I didn't kill nobody, people," Sanchez said, as he was led from the courtroom. McDonald stared at the floor during the hearing.

Both men, who were on parole for different drug offenses, were ordered held on $10 million cash bail.

Authorities said Armanious, 47; his wife, Amal Garas, 37, and their children - Sylvia, 15, and Monica, 8 - were slain three days before their bodies were found Jan. 14.

"Where and when has the Muslim Community made an energetic public sustained effort to lament and disclaim the violence committe in the name of Muslims?"

Why do you think that this should be necessary ?

Yes that's true also.

"Through his lawyer, McDonald, convicted in 2001 for delivering 500 grams of cocaine to an undercover federal informant in Maine, asked to be placed in protective custody. The request was granted."
.................
"DeFazio said investigators are continuing to search for additional people in connection with the case.

Sources close to the investigation said McDonald and his wife were lying in bed in the upstairs apartment when the police knocked down the door to the home and discovered the family slain in the apartment below.

McDonald was questioned several times immediately after the murders and released".

Chasing the theory, the FBI sent investigators to the family's native Egypt and scoured computer records, searching for evidence of an Internet threat friends say Armanious received after an online religious debate.

But a letter in the mail led them to a suspect much closer to home.

In mail sent to the family, prosecutors found a notice from the Bank of America saying Armanious' ATM card had been canceled due to someone repeatedly trying to withdraw more than the daily minimum amount, DeFazio said earlier this week."
(Wait a minute, investigators didnt check out the money aspect first ? They waited until they found mail from BOA canceling the ATM card ? )

DeFazio said the two men had a large debt and that they believed the Armanious family, who relatives said were planning on starting a business, had large amounts of money

In this particular case it appears that it WAS undeserved and unwarranted.>>>

but if you review the posts, it shows that the search for the truth was a secondary consideration - the opportunity to spread hatred and distrust was not to be missed.
Many posts did not even bother to reference the subject of the thread - they were simply reposts of anti-muslim pictures and slogans, looking very much like those used to rouse anti-American feelings and get the unwashed out to march in the streets.>>>

Spout your pablum somewhere else.

No one on FR has kept closer watch on this particular story that I have.

The moment new information came in that arrests had been made, I immediately shared this with the community.

Anyone who expressed anger that Muslims may have murdered a family in cold blood had every right to express the sentiments they did.

The family had received death threats online from Muslims, so it was highly plausible to ascertain that Islamists might be culpable.

What town was the blind sheik and his cell from, by the way? The ones who first attacked the Twin Towers?

I have no clue. Obviously you are closer to these low-lifes than I. Go ahead and clue me in...where were they from?

Well, let's just give you a pat on the back for that... feel better now ?

"Anyone who expressed anger that Muslims may have murdered a family in cold blood had every right to express the sentiments they did."

The posts I refered to were the ones who used the killings as simply another excuse to vent their anger and hatred at the entire muslim population. Many had NO mention whatsoever of the thread topic.

This is very much like what every extreamist group uses to rouse their troops, similar to a march in the streets shouting " Death to _______" or "_________ is the tool of Satan" or even the ever popular " "_________ GO HOME ! "

from jihadwatch. http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/005241.php#c75469

Not long after the murders, I was contacted by a Coptic Christian who identified himself as a close friend of the Garas family (Hossam Armanious's wife's family). He claimed to have detailed information about the murders, and he gave it to me. His sources and his information appeared to be solidly based and at very least worth investigating.

Some of it has been reported recently: a halal butcher whose daughter was converted to Christianity planned the murders for several months in revenge for the conversion. He fled the country shortly after the murders, but he planned them along with three others who are still in the country. The Copt gave me the names of all four, along with phone numbers and other details for two of them.

I had no idea whether or not the information I had been given was true, and I never claimed that it was. But it warranted investigation. I passed it on to the Hudson County Prosecutors Office.

Neither I nor my source was contacted about any of this information for three weeks after I filed the initial report. The only time I spoke to an official there, he was unfailingly polite but unmistakably condescending and clearly believed nothing that I had to tell him. From what I understand the Copt who told me all this fared little better.

You're abhorrent.

That obviously wasn't my point.

My point was that of anyone, I've followed fellow freepers posts on this matter and I was simply refuting your erroneous allegations that most posters were spewing vitriol, instead of sharing open-ended discourse on the subject of Islam's possible role in the murders.

Buh bye

If the motive was simple robbery, what are we to believe about all this? That a Copt invented the story of the death threat, and that other Copts invented the story of the conversion and revenge plot? That it was just coincidental that a couple of lowlifes happened to murder this family in the same manner in which Muslims murder blasphemers and other enemies of Islam?

I hope Edward DeFazio will be courteous enough to answer. But considering that he recently forbade a reporter even to ask him about possible religious motivation for the killings, I won't be holding my breath.

Well, first of all I said many, not most... but in any case if you review the threads the ones who immediately used the word Jihad were the ones who were NOT interested in " open-minded discourse".

I never knew til now that tin hats could rust.

Since you really NEED a conspiracy theory, how about the much more likely one that the lowlife who lived upstairs from these outspoken folks might have known they were Christian, known they had received threats, known that many people are quick to jump to conclusions and make wild assumptions (no..really?!), and known that the family would recognize him and open the door without need for forced entry, etc.?

Your above statement is jumbled and incoherant.

Nouns are your friend btw.

Apparently you are saying that the upstairs tenant McDonald was clever enough to assume that the robbery would be pinned on Muslims ?

Is that what you're seriously saying ?

Reminds me of the little girl who cried wolf so many times that when the wolf really came for her, no one would listen. If death threats become so common place that the whole world understands what a fatwa is, it's no surprise when the murder of a family is linked to those who issue them.
