Wal-Mart plans 10 new stores in China Firm aims to profit from new rules for foreign retailers
Updated: 11:51 a.m. ET Nov. 2, 2004BEIJING -
The worlds biggest retailer, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., said it planned at least 10 new stores in China next year, joining other foreign retail giants in taking advantage of new rules letting them move into smaller cities.
...Snip...
Last year, it sourced $15 billion worth of goods in low-cost China, from bicycles to fish. Scott said Chinese products made up about 80 percent of imports sold by Wal-Mart at its more than 3,200 U.S. outlets.

So you're telling me that only their appliances are made in China. Last I checked, 100% of their shoes and bicycles were made in China. Most of their clothes are made in Latin American countries. What are you smoking?
I'm not that into Sams, it's just WalMart only more so. And interestingly enough is losing the war against CostCo in both the ways WalMart cares about (volume of sales, number customer visits) and the ways CostCo cares about (employee retention, general profit).
no one here said that
No, I'm telling you that you can't read, here's the quote again: there are certain areas (like small appliances) where the Chinese have taken over the entire industry
Notice the words "certain areas" meaning more than one (hence the plural) market nitch, then the parenthetical "like small appliances" offering that up as an example of one of those plural areas. Only anybody smoking anything here is the guy that doesn't understand how the letter S turns a noun into nouns.
"Last year, it sourced $15 billion worth of goods in low-cost China, from bicycles to fish."
China has FemiNazis? Isn't their mantra "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle?"
I shop at Wal-Mart from time to time; bought a bike there once, but found my husband in the Classifieds in the newspaper. ;)
I would but I need to buy something ... at Wal-Mart.
Wonder if Walmart stores in China sell "Made in U.S.A." stuff.
Hate to break it to you, but that's an excerpt, not a link.
Last year, the firm bought US$15 billion products from China, half from direct purchasing, the other from the firm's suppliers in China.
That means Huffy should be included in the half from their suppliers in China.
This is a link Wal-Mart's China inventory to hit US$18b this year
Go randomly pick out 100 items off the shelf and see where it was made. I've got $100 that says more than 7 items will be made in China.
Here's another math lesson for you, I didn't say 7% of the number of items were from China, I said 7% of the value of goods they bought were from China.
70 of the items you pick up might be Chinese, but if they're 10 cents each and the other 30 you pick up are worth $3.10 each, then that works out to 7% of the value.
Don't try to do math yourself, just take my word for it.
I bet they don't have to worry about Unions there.
I'm the marketing manager for just such a WalMart vendor.
I wont argue with you on that, but you've been trying real stinkin hard to tell me most of the items in Walmart are American and you're just 70% full of shit.
Well then, it should be easy for you.
So, if the link in post #50 says half their Chinese purchases were direct purchases and half from the firms suppliers in China, then you have your work cut out for you.
OUCH. Do you feel stupid now?
You've surpassed my threshold for caustic asshole for the day.
You are tooooo much, just because the supplier in an American company does not mean the goods are produced in the USA. For example I could say that I only buy American casue I only shop at walmart. hahahaha, but unlike you, I couldn't said it with a straight face.
Well, if only 7% of the value is Chinese, I just have this feeling that a huge % of the number of items is not Chinese. But if you feel the number is more important than the value, I await your source showing number of items.
Good luck!
and you're just 70% full of shit
Now, now, we've already shown your math lacks a bit. I don't suppose you have a source for this latest assertion?
Anywhere near Bloomfield?
That's pretty funny since your first post to me was to accuse me of lying. Then your second post deliberately misinterpretted what I wrote (which is lying) and then insulted me. And now you're accusing me of being a caustic asshole, might I suggest you turn the brightness up on your monitor so it doesn't reflect your face back at you so much.
