Wal-Mart plans 10 new stores in China Firm aims to profit from new rules for foreign retailers
Updated: 11:51 a.m. ET Nov. 2, 2004BEIJING -
The worlds biggest retailer, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., said it planned at least 10 new stores in China next year, joining other foreign retail giants in taking advantage of new rules letting them move into smaller cities.
...Snip...
Last year, it sourced $15 billion worth of goods in low-cost China, from bicycles to fish. Scott said Chinese products made up about 80 percent of imports sold by Wal-Mart at its more than 3,200 U.S. outlets.

Wal-Marts are the Chicom distribution centers.
No, Wal-Mart is a publicly-traded U.S. corporation that happens to sell some products from an origin you disapprove. Please try to get that straight.
I'm not sure they ever had an America first policy, and frankly with the modern age of business I'm not sure any retailer could survive with an America first policy. 90% of the small appliances and textiles in the world right now are made somewhere else, you can't be a department store without small appliances clothes and linen, and you simply can't stock an even remotely useful selection of any of those without imported goods.
BUT WalMart does sell KitchenAid, which happens to be one of the only small appliance makers that still manufactures in the US (and, IMHO, happens to be one of the best also). So maybe you should look a little closer.
We can see in the math already on this thread that Wally can't possibly be responsible for more than about 3% of our trade deficit. Be a Wally hater if it makes you feel better, but understand that if they ceased to existe today the Chinese would still get to continue 97% of their existing exports to America.
You are so simple. You think the 3rd world parents are sitting around watching HBO and drinking beer while they send the kids out to work?
You ever think that the only reason parents would send their kids out to work is so they could afford to feed, clothe and shelter their family?
No, because your ignorance has blinded you to the way the world really works. But hey, at least you're against child labor. Just ignore all the starving children, won't you?
Because they're ignorant!!!
The only good product is 100% American parts, 100% American labor made in America by a 100% American owned company. And if poor 3rd world children starve to death, at least we saved them from working.
Yes, because this is a continuation of a discussion on MANUFACTURING, the USA still grows and processes food.
Did they every add fast food to the manufacturing sector like was discussed awhile back?
Even if it were 1% made in China, it'd be 1% too much for me.
Absolutely correct. Economic nationalism is the only sustainable economy in the long term. Anything that benefits the national socialist regime in China is bad.
So, name an economy that has done this successfully for more than a few years.
"You are the one supporting sweat shops, child labor, forced labor and slave labor."

You need to get out of the house more often. Then maybe you'd learn that in third world countries most children must work to support their family. It is only as an economy develops and wealth is created that the children are no longer required to work and can instead attend school.
This in turn creates a more educated work force which further drives the growth of the economy. I'd very much like to read your solutions to this issue. There are millions of third world families struggling to get by every day who would benefit from your "lessons" as to how they can make their lives, and their children's lives, better by not taking the work that is available to them.
Spain 1936-1975.
Name a nation that has survived as a world power after exporting its ability to manufacture to an enemy country.
Economic success means nothing if your nation is hostage to foreigners. Some things are more important than profit and loss.
Do you have any links to info about Spain's economy during that period?
Name a nation that has survived as a world power after exporting its ability to manufacture to an enemy country.
We still manufacture in the US. In fact, more every month.
US manufacturing sector continues to expand; growth rate dips
Are you referring to some manufacturing now being done in China? Are you saying China is an enemy? Are they a threat to the US? A big threat?
Quote: Millions of Chinese are pouring into the cities begging for the kinds of jobs jpsb condemns. Unemployment in the rural areas of China is 50% or more. I guess these people should just rest in comfort, even though they aren't eating, knowing that they haven't been exploited and that jpsb is feeling better about himself 10,000 miles away. LOL
Yeah like you really care about these people. If another country that popped up that would do it less than china you would be all for it.
So, did you have any economic data? Was Spain more prosperous than its freer trading neighbors? Or do we just take your word that they were successfully self sufficient? That they needed no outside trade?
Just another protectionist, no-fact drive-by.
