Wal-Mart plans 10 new stores in China Firm aims to profit from new rules for foreign retailers
Updated: 11:51 a.m. ET Nov. 2, 2004BEIJING -
The worlds biggest retailer, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., said it planned at least 10 new stores in China next year, joining other foreign retail giants in taking advantage of new rules letting them move into smaller cities.
...Snip...
Last year, it sourced $15 billion worth of goods in low-cost China, from bicycles to fish. Scott said Chinese products made up about 80 percent of imports sold by Wal-Mart at its more than 3,200 U.S. outlets.

That's only 7.55% of total goods purchased. How can they sell only Chinese goods when Chinese goods were only 7.55% of their total?
And another thing, if $15 billion is 80% of their total imports, that means total imports were only $18.75 billion. I thought all their products were imports.
Could some WalMart bashers please check my math here?
Thanks for your help.
fyi......ping
The Social(ist) wing of the conservative movement would believe that Wal Mart was run by the church of satan if you told them.
However, you can almost traverse the entire state by walking exclusively in Home Depot parking lots.
this guy just doesnt give up. Jpsb, please post your link again that refutes ol toddsters claim that only 7% of Walmarts good are Chinese.
Home Depot is the devil. I've heard that WalMart sells 100% Chinese goods, but Home Depot sells 120% Chinese goods.
Bastards!!
Please tell me how much WalMart bought.
They're going to sell the Chinese stuff back to the Chinese?
That's right!! They only bought $137.5 billion worth last year.
Are the Chinese stores going to be completely stocked with US goods? ;-)
They wanted to, but we don't export or make anything in America anymore.
US manufacturing sector continues to expand; growth rate dips
MOving closer to their manufactoring base?
Show those Chinese bastards how crappy their stuff really is, eh? Teach them to mess with us.
It'll make it really easy for them to utilize the just-in-time-inventory system, as the goods will have a much shorter journey from factory to store.
This corresponds nicely with what I have observed on my rare trips to walmart. I have looked, with my own lying eyes, at the durable goods for sale at walmart and they are almost exclusively Chicom made. I am certain many other freepers can report similar experiences at their local walmart.
I am surprised that you even brother to dispute what every shopper in the USA knows .... walmart is pushing Chicom crap BIG TIME. Walmart makes it living pushing Chicom crap, Walmart does not sell made in the USA cause walmart is in bed with the chicoms and is doing everything it can to drive USA manufacturers out of business so it can sell more Chicom crap.
It does, walmart forces it's supplier to move their operation to China, those that do not move their operation do not sell to walmart.
...plans to sell U.S.A. 'factory-prison' products in Chinese stores,....Chinese workers filing complaints...
