You are right on all counts IMHO.

He will be stealing cars in 6-7 years. And when he gets offed after almost running over policemen, the news will revert back to his picture as an 8 year old to gather sympathy and hatred to cops.

A good ear popping whack side of the head would have stopped the little tyrant.

Look on the bright side. Now the parents know they have a problem, they can take the kid on Dr. Phil. ;)

I smell a lawsuit coming.

Nah, I doubt the school, the teacher, or the police will sue the parents.

They should, but they won't.

I would have gotten paddled by the teacher until I couldn't sit down, and again at home by my father.

Man, if I would have don't that in school back in the 60's, I know what would have been waiting for me when I got home. I'll give you a clue....It wouldn't be a lawsuit!

Can any of you older freepers imagine what the reaction would have been if you had acted this way in school when you were eight?

I would have been spanked by my teacher, my principle, and by my mother when I got home. I would have lost my allowance and television privileges. I can remember as a senior in high school being told, “You may be a foot taller than me, but you have to sleep sometime.” I joined the Navy out of high school and went to Viet Nam to have a less disciplined life.

I think every coach had one of those whoppers. I think the coaches honed their fine skills in the woodshop after hours.

This child WILL be diagnosed with a plethora of disabilities, from ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder) to ADD to ADHD which will transform him into a Special Education student. As such, the school cannot get rid of him and will be forced, courtesy of Special Ed lawyers hired by the parents, to accommodate his 'disabilities' with special classrooms, shadow aides, easier coursework, psychiatric assessments, etc.

In our household, there was the "board of correction." It had the holes drilled for that splendid "waffle-effect."

Dad was also quite proficient with the leather belt....Indiana Jones and his whip had nothing on him.

A very good friend - no wimp, an ex-Navy Chief - was doing substitute teacher duty when one of his little charges had a similar tantrum. The guidance then was to wrap them in your arms until they calmed so they wouldn't hurt themselves or anyone else thrashing.

One kick from a small foot sent Jim to hernia surgery. The guidance was modified.

Yep...my Dad used the belt...still remember that sucker popping through the loops as it was "drawn".

He did it for effect...I don't remember him being truly angry. But he schooled us in the finer arts of acceptable and good behavior through discipline and tough love.

Now, over a year after his passing, I find myself reminiscing on the wisdom of his upbringing and missing our conversation as adults and his always sound advise as we spoke of my own adult kids and their children...my grandchildren and his great grand children.

Somehow, we need to get those days back...to get that discipline, tough (true) love back into our society and do away with all of the liberal, mushy minded gobbledigook that has infected our society.

I believe we have a window of opportunity yet to get it back...but fear that a calamity of monstorous proportions awaits us as a self correction if we do not. You would have thought 911 was enough....but apparently not.

the story does not say why he was not allowed to go out and join his classmates...whats the whole story here...I think I would be mad if the rest of the class got to go out but I had to stay as this story implies!

How many here would have been arrested or suspended when they were in school, going by today's standards? I would have.

It's a miracle they didn't taser him. That seems to be the fashion these days concerning children. Poor child.
