ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- The battle over bulge continues at an Atlantic City casino.
The "Borgata Babes" aren't getting a break on their weight. The Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, N.J., won't budge on its new weight requirements.
The Borgata has rejected a union grievance challenging the casino's imposition of weight limits on cocktail servers -- known as "Borgata Babes" -- and costumed bartenders. It said they are performers whose personal appearance and grooming are a key part of Borgata's image.
The babes have to squeeze into skimpy costumes.
Last month casino officials announced that the Borgata Babes and bartenders would have to weigh-in. Anyone who gained more than 7 percent of their body weight would be subject to suspension or firing.
But Local 54 of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees union, which represents the cocktail servers and the bartenders, quickly contested the policy. They said it violates the casino's contract with the union by imposing a unilateral change in working conditions.
Officials of the waitress and bartenders union said they'll now take the weighty issue to arbitration.
They can do what they like as far as I'm concerned. Yet I think women look better with a bit of curve to them.
Of course, such things are ALWAYS a matter of personal preference. It's a gift of nature that were aren't all clones of one another and we have different things that appeal to us.
Well, I guess I'll open this can of worms...
If a business owner can refuse to hire smokers, I guess all bets are off.
I personally think it's not a good thing...where does it end?
Well, I agree with them too. It's their company.
Not the minority.
Funny thing you never hear is that the same deal applies to the male bartenders, etc. as well. As long as "what's good for the goose" (no pun intended) is "good for the gander," I have no problem with it either.
I mean really, does the Federal Gov't need to be involved with weight issues (that were disclosed up front, mind you) at a casino? If so, then get ready for limits on the amount of silicone at certain "gentlemen's establishments." I think we have more important things to worry about.
I just wish I was able to fit into those costumes!.LOL
In light of age discrimination laws they have in shape old women serving drinks. Aghhhhhhhhhhh.
Oh, me too.
(laundry is the bane of my existence)
Right about now, somebody is going to post the lyrics to "Fat Bottomed Girls".
Explained very well here. It's a new movement?
Why Not "Fat" Pride??

If ever there was a thread that needed pics, this is one.
Why don't they put that in a kareoke machine. Might even get me to sing.
Well if the chick from Cheers can get her own show on HBO or Showtime then you comment is on point.
They will glorify her weight. I know there are folks who both prefer to have extra pounds and like those around them with extra pounds.
But it is not healthy. imho
"How can I leave this behind?"
Yeah, their best work from Intravenus de Milo.
There ain't nothin' wrong with a little cushing for pushing!!
May I quote my favorite line from that song?
Talk about mudflaps, my girls got 'em, Big Bottom, drive me out of my mind...How could I leave this behind?
CLASSIC!
