there are 2 lines that people go over as I see it....

the post-pubescent and the pre-pubescent.

just pubescent or pre-pubescent is so far removed from anything acceptable to ellict folks to want to string these bastards up by their yarbles.....

post pubescent....eg she was 16 going on 32 is pedophilia in america and rightly so...but we have to look at a few things....first of all...if a person is 21 and oogles, or dare I say date a 16 year old is this truly pedophila....One can say this is for the courts to decide...

Up until the mid 20th century in this country it was ok to date and marry someone who had surpased puberty...their age was determined by their apparent 'filling out' into their adult bodies.....some states have the age of consent many years younger than other states....

so yes the frog who wanted a bugger boy (or girl for that matter) of 10 years old in exchange for a new tire...should be publicly castrated.....but as the age of the young person increases there are grey areas.....

just my $0.02

Inspector Clouseau is, of course, alive and well in Angers!

The defendants sound like perfect French candidates to "serve" with the UN peacekeepers and humanitarians in Africa.

It's not ok, never has been. "Alot of guys" is quite a generalization, but given the extreme emotions surrounding the topic, it easily understandable. You never notice the large majority of men that realize young girls act like and mimick older women, but they are still young, immature, little girls and it is not desirable or acceptable to view them as anything but. What is puzzling is that when a guy comments on a young girl why he isn't admonished by his peers more often. I have to call it out when I see it because it's irresponsible, disgusting and usually marks the guy as dim-wit who is socially immature and maladjusted.

There seem to be few gray areas here ~ more like 6 months old, lenient French laws on pedophilia, compliant, if not corrupt, cops, social welfare specialists who are no longer able to tell right from wrong, and we could go on and on and on.

There is no gray area when a child is sold into prostitution by his or her parents and/or forced into incestual acts, age of the minor victim notwithstanding.
Your agenda doesn't fit this crime.

I thought the French were intellectually and morally greater than all the rest of us? Yeah...ok...."No War!"...."U.S. Is Nazi"...but 12 and 13 year olds are ok...

"old, lenient French laws on pedophilia"

Under those "lenient" laws, 3 of these people could be jailed for life, 39 could get up to 20 years, and those who knew or suspected and didn't tell the police can end up in jail for 3 to 7 years.

As for the "compliant, if not corrupt cops", may I suggest this is a very grave accusation, especially in such a horrific case, and that should be based on something solid.

never said there was....there is a grey area....when a consenting 16 year old dates(thats dates) a 21 year old...I was answering a specific complaint someone made here, about how some men(21?? men?) oogle 16 year old girls....if you read the post of that person that I was answering you would see where I was going with this....not the rape and child sex slavery from our amphibious 'friends' in france....

If by that you mean that pedophiles and sexual predators are a typically French thing no other country ever encounters because of supposedly higher morality, Madam, I fear you're wrong...

#1. The initial case assignments - give case A to one detective, and give case B to another detective, both cases involving similar crimes in the same area ~ that's usually evidence of corrupt practice ~ notice that elsewhere other cops are quoted as saying they know all these people quite well due to their frequent arrests for sex crimes.

#2. As stiff as the potential penalties may seem, the fact is according to the cops all these guys have been in a revolving door in and out of jail. Europeans, in general, have this thing about keeping criminals locked up ~ they don't!

#3. Europeans still have this theory going that pedophiles can be "cured". Recidivism is nearly 100% however. They will need to change their minds if they wish to reduce the incidence of this category of crime.

Of course I don't mean that. I am referring to specific cases of abuse by French UN workers in Africa ... you have heard of that, haven't you? It's recent.

You mean, criminals like the parolee in Brooklyn who recently killed actress Nicolle DuFresne because she smiled ? Frankly, it does not take a rocket scientist to see that this is a problem affecting every Western nation, because of all the political correctness thing, and because our judicial and prison systems date from a time when people didn't have that many easy ways to commit crimes and clog tribunals.

In Congo, the U.N. has investigated 150 allegations of sexual exploitation of women and girls as young as 12 or 13, including gang rapes, by some 50 peacekeepers.
It banned its soldiers from having sex with Congolese last month as part of a new "non-fraternisation" policy.
...Three years ago, the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR was mired in a scandal when a report it commissioned said that scores of refugee children in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone had been subjected to sexual abuse in exchange for humanitarian aid.

We don't have parole in Virginia. Then, if you used a gun in your crime, we slap an additional 5 years on your sentence.

This cut the state's murder rate substantially.

Obviously today's French are not like the old timers who made good use of Devil's Island!

Over the time, I've read more or less every kind of horror story : the pedophile French relief workers in Congo, the teen-age bordello some US soldiers had organized in ex-Yugoslavia in 1998 or 1999, the bizarre same-sex abuse of young Canadian soldiers by their room-mates... There are times when I really need to stop reading newspapers and delve deep into a good history book.

Alas ! Or at least we could have another go at the good ol' guilltoine, who had this wonderful advantage of totally preventing repeating offences.

Oh, the 5 more years are for what you call aggravated assault, aren't they ? My American wife told me about that.
