Big deal, the KKK compares Republicans to Hitler. Like who's going to listen to that source for credibility?

Byrd is beyond senile.

Unfortunately, he's just a middle of the road DemocRAT.

As a West Virginian, I fully intend to do everything in my power to retire Senator Byrd in 2006. His rantings have made him a joke, especially on WV Talk Radio.

He continually embarrasses me by his rants against President Bush's efforts in the middle east. I suspect that he takes this position because of his family connections to Muslims...His daughter is married to a Turk, and his granddaughter is married to a Saudi.

I wonder what his Klan would say about that????

Byrd and a sizable group of southern white Democrats organized and participated in the filibuster of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. It took a group of minority Republicans, joining with other Democrats, to successfully invoke cloture and stop the filibuster. Everett Dirksen of Illinois led the Republican effort, and received accolades from President Lyndon Johnson, and Roy Wilkens of the NAACP, for his efforts.

It is ironic that Republicans get tarred with the "racist" label because even though the majority of Senate Republicans supported the CRA of 1964, their Presidential candidate for that year, Barry Goldwater, opposed it, albeit for reasons other than those held by Byrd and the other 'Rats who led the filibuster.

:hy·per·bo·le
n.
A figure of speech in which exaggeration is used for emphasis or effect, as in "The Republican Party are like Nazis".

:Godwin's Law: /prov./ [Usenet] "As a Usenet discussion grows
longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler
approaches one." There is a tradition in many groups that, once
this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis
has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress."
