Robert Byrd Compares the GOP to Hitler
The National Ledger ^ | March 1, 2005

Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) is not happy that the majority party in the Senate is debating on using the U.S. Constitution and senate rules as guide to allow Federal judicial nominees their rightful vote in the full Senate. According to UPI the pompous ex-Klansman is threatening to become a "major presence on the Senate floor if Republicans alter Senate rules to prevent judicial nominations from being blocked by a minority of senators."

The former KKK member then compared the GOP to Adolf Hitler.

From Fox News: On Tuesday, Sen. Robert Byrd compared Republican tactics on nominees to Adolph Hitler's use of power in Nazi Germany.

Hmmmm, an idea there. Hitler used to just shoot his political enemies, or have them sent to concentration camps.

Would Byrd be satisfied if that were to happen to him?

Well, Sen. Byrd certainly knows a lot about racism.

And I compare Byrd to a sheet-wearing ignorant redneck.

Oops! Never mind...

A former Grand Dragon in the KKK calling anyone "Hitler-like" is absolutely hysterical!

Ja Wohl Herr Fuhrer Byrd!

I think it's time for the Sr. Sen from WVa to appear before a Court Ordered Competency hearing.

For the record, Byrd wasn't a Grand Dragon. He was a Kleagle, i.e. a racist schmuck who got paid to recruit for the Klan. Just as bad in my book but let's not give the DUmmies anything of merit to scream about.

Robert Byrd participated in the filibuster in an effort to keep the Civil Rights act from being passed (1964 I think)

A far more apt comparison is the KKK to Hitler - race supremacy in its highest form.

And then there is Democrats - race baiting and race explotation in its highest form.

Senator Byrd....you seem to adhere to both; inquiring minds would like to know, what is your preference?

On the business about Byrd's brief Klan membership, Mr. Jackson again quoted the story: "The fact is that he was a Kleagle, or organizer, for the Klan during World War II and wrote as late as 1946 to Dr. Samuel Green of Atlanta, Imperial Grand Wizard of the Klan, recommending a friend as a Kleagle and urging promotion of the Klan throughout the nation."

Mr. Jackson said the story also reported that in 1946, Byrd wrote to Imperial Wizard Green: "The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia."

As for "youthful indiscretion," Mr. Jackson observed that in 1946, Robert Byrd was 29 years old. American Taliban John Walker Lindh, he pointed out, is 20.

Byrd knew what he was doing, said Mr. Jackson. In 1945, a year earlier, Byrd wrote to Mississippi's virulent segregationist Sen. Theodore Bilbo that he would never serve in an integrated Army. "Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds," Byrd wrote. Confronted with the letter in 1999, Byrd said he didn't recall writing it, but he said, "I will not dispute the quote, though I consider it deplorable."

Because the rules that apply to Republicans (Trent Lott and Strom Thurmond) don't apply to Democrats. The Democrat goal is power at all costs. Racism is just a weapon in the arsenal to attain such power.

Thanks for the post. Yep...Byrd really is the "Conscience of the Senate"...if one is referring to the Roman Senate in its final days of amoral debauchery.

Hi, all. My first post as a freeper(sigh).

Is there anyone here who has not already concluded that Byrd took leave of his senses long before now?

The wizened old cross-burner has not been a relevant member of the Senate since Ted Kennedy weighed less than 200 lbs. And even the "Mass from Massachusets" himself has a hard time being half the blowhard that Byrd is.
