Condi Tops Prez & Hil in New Poll
NY Daily News ^ | March 1, 2005 | KENNETH R. BAZINET

Posted on 03/01/2005 12:11:49 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Since moving from the White House to the State Department, Condoleezza Rice's star appears to be rising faster than any Washington politico, including President Bush and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Only the ailing Pope John Paul - with a whopping 78% favorability rating - got higher marks than the secretary of state in a new Gallup poll released yesterday.

"There's been less controversy lately than last year when Condi was testifying in Congress, and now she's in a much more prominent position," said Marist College pollster Lee Miringoff. "As secretary of state you add legitimacy to your power."

Rice, who already is being urged to run for President in 2008 by some, has a 59% favorability rating in the poll, while only 27% of respondents gave her an unfavorable score.

"When she was national security advisor, she looked like a staffer. Now she looks like someone running an important department," Miringoff added.

Bush trailed Rice with a 56% favorability rating, followed by Clinton, who's considered the Democratic presidential front-runner in four years, at 53%.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean lagged far behind the pack at 35%, and his numbers suggested he needs to raise his profile a bit. Some 14% of people polled said they had never heard of Dean, while another 18% had no opinion of him.

"Hard to believe, but I'm already sick and tired of the '08 Presidential campaign."

I'm with you.

On the other hand, Bubba got elected due to voter apathy. This is still a world - 'scuse me, global - war. Can we afford to become apathetic due to media generated election overload?

Good point.

Looks like the camps may split again. And if the beneficiary is another Clinton, we will only have ourselves to blame.

Dr. Condi: Pro-life or pro-abortion?

Oh, I'll bounce back in '08, but I would like a year or two off. :-)

Well, if I were the interviewer, I'd keep dropping my pencil to get a bird's eye view of her legs, so I sympathize with the guy. ;o)

"Bush does not exist as he does without Reagan."

I disagree. While I agree President Reagan was our greatest president, I also believe President Bush is his equal; possibly, history will consider him an even greater president. Time will tell on that second part.

No man exists in a vacuum. While he greatly admired President Reagan, he's a great leader in his own right and may have been every bit as good a president as he is today even if there had never been a President Reagan.

The only difference is that we who loved the Great Man cannot help but use his presidency as a litmus test for all who come after.

You are right about Bush following in Reagan's footsteps, I just think that he has taken the Presidency to a new level.

I can't believe that you actually think Hillary is the "smartest politician"in the U.S.! There is no way Hillary is as smart as Condi. Condi is brilliant. She has not been elected to an office but she is certainly more intelligent than Hillary. She speaks a number of foreign languages. What is your real problem with Dr Rice?

Reagan was my Governor when I lived in California and I thought that he did a great job, but I still love George Bush and Laura is a different kind of First Lady than Nancy Reagan.

I truly think you should review what experience she is getting as a SOS and as the closet thing to the President. Means alot these days. Can't history and the way politicians are viewed change in the public's eye? Believe it or not with the support of GW and GHW's support group, Condi will wipe Hillary out.

Living in the Ark. annex of West Tenn. we have had to put up with the Clinton's for over 25 years. Who ever started the rumor that Mrs. Clinton is the smartest woman in the world is just plain lying. In the smarts department the Hildabeast cannot hold a candle to Condi.

More of the same nonsense. If Rice runs, she'll split the GOP wide open. Not because she's a black woman, but because she's "reluctantly pro-choice." The people pushing hardest for a Rice run are Hillary Clinton toadies--like the NY Daily News, for instance.

The one thing Hillary doesn't want to run against is a conservative Republican with no baggage. That's why the news media is so intent on putting the weakest potential candidates out there: Condi, Rudi, McCain. None of these three will EVER be president, even if they get the nomination.

Rice needs to run for senate in CA. Rudi needs to run for senate in NY. McCain needs to retire. End of story.

This used to be a conservative forum.

There are a fair number of people on FR who still bark when the media says 'speak.' The old media won't have lost their deathgrip on public opinion until the vast majority of people start treating them like Pravda.

Most definitely, and thank heaven for that.
