Will Coward Zarqawi Use Latest OBL to Run From Iraq?
Self | 03/01/05 | Self

Posted on 03/01/2005 5:14:35 AM PST by time4good

Brit Hume's Special Report last night talked about the message intercepted between OBL and Zarqawi. OBL tells him to not focus on Iraq but rather on the US (see puke Today-Show Comments thread also).

Knowing that Meyers told Brit the other day we're super close to nabbing CowardZ, I was thinking this morning that given the ilk's desire to save face in the Muslim/Terrorist world AND that he's not stupid for the insta-72-Virgins, that he might use OBL's suggestion/blessing to finally high-tail it out of Iraq and still not look like the wimp/coward/weasel to the Arab world (that he really is).

Thus, my hope that they're aggressively watching the border (Iraq, NOT Mexico - another thread please).

Thoughts?

Yeah, it seems entirely possible that he'll flee. He could probably set up shop in Syria for a while, but that's risky since Assad might turn him in for the $25 million, and there is no honor among thugs. But I wouldn't rule it out. The heat is on.

That sounds very plausible to me. In fact, it is possible that the message was intended to be intercepted for that very reason. The weasel will bolt soon (if he hasn't already) while saving face. Maybe the good guys will catch a break and nab him, but its been my observation that evil is usually pretty lucky.

Could be...

Maybe OBL wanted this message to be intercepted so if "Z" leaves it'll look like he did it because he was ordered and not running...

He can run, but he'll only die tired.

Maybe OBL is suggesting he do a PERSONAL suicide bombing. this is proof positive that OBL is dillusional. Ofcourse it could be the code for the U.S. Islamofascist to beginning the attacks in Ameica.

I agree he has been given permission to haul A** out of Iraq. Syria is not safe anymore for the terrorists, so must be either Iran or Saudi. Good indication that OBL is starting to FEAR the ARAB governments.

I'm of two minds about the apparent present state of al-Qaeda and their allied groups. The fact that all they can do, it seems, is release tapes and TALK about attacking the US gives me comfort, since I think it shows their weakness. But what makes me truly shudder is the knowledge that if they could attack the US they would not hesitate to do so, and that they are patient and could just be working towards another huge attack rather than a number of small ones.

We can't let up on them for a moment, as I'm sure the Bush administration and everyone here is aware.

I've quit trying to predict rational actions by insane individuals.

I don't think that Zarqawi is even in Iraq. I'm betting Iran, though possibly Syria.

This story that the US says Osama is trying to send a message to Zarqawi that he should attack the US is perplexing, though.

I'm not sure why the US would release such a statement even if it were true. Why should the US act as the medium of communication between Osama and Zarqawi? If Zarqawi didn't have the message before, he certainly does now.

It makes you wonder whether the US might already have Zarqawi in custody. In any event, I've gotta believe that the release of that information was calculated to achieve some result we wanted. What, I'm not sure.

I really doubt that he is still in Iraq.

More probably, he is already in the Syrian boarder areas, and has been for awhile.

I think this is a smart move by OBL to make Zarqawi look like a loser rather than himself. OBL hasn't done much in the last four years. Too bad. I hope they fight it out amongst themselves.

It has me puzzled, as well.

Why would we ever release classified ELINT intercepts?
I just don't know whats up, but I don't think that the Iranian mullahs want him anywhere near Iranian soil.

Don't underestimate the Iranians. They probably have the entire al Qaeda brass set up in a "war room" in Tehran.

I'm not underestimating the Iranians.

It would be a perfect excuse for military action against them when we alreadyhave numerous assets already deployed within striking distance.

They are not going to jeopardize their dream of nuclear weaponry for some cruddy Sunni Baathist.

However, it may be true that they just don't have a clue, and are proceeding exactly as you wrote.

They've already given us plenty of reasons to attack them. We just haven't taken the bait. If we decide to do so, though, I am sure that Bush will have no difficulty finding a suitable pretext.

This makes much more sense that thinking that Al-Z can actually start hitting targets in the US.  It's possible that he could, but it's improbable.
