CHICAGO (Reuters) - A federal judge who was the target of a death plot by a jailed white supremacist returned to her home on Monday to find two people dead inside, police said.
Chicago police spokesman Pat Camden would only say there was a "death investigation" under way and released no names. But the Chicago Tribune on its Web site said the dead were the husband and mother of the U.S. District Court judge, Joan Lefkow, and that their bodies were found lying in blood.
Last year a jury convicted Matthew Hale, founder of the "World Church of the Creator," with trying to hire someone to kill Lefkow, who had been presiding over a case that involved him on another matter.
Hale has been in jail and was due to be sentenced later this year.
In July of 1999 one of his alleged followers went on a shooting rampage in the Chicago area and in nearby states, killing two people and wounding nine others. His targets included blacks and Jews.
Hale was not charged in relation to that crime. His "church" may have existed mainly as a Web site and it was never clear how many followers he had.
This type of activity will become all too frequent, I'm afraid.
why is that?
Because the nutcases are on the loose.
The Federal Government, and especially the Judiciary, are seizing more and more power, giving the fringe elements more and more to gripe about.
I predict that "homegrown" terrorism will be a bigger problem than Islamic terrorism in 10 years.
Is this an update?
There's not much new information that I found, except for the bodies being those of the Judge's relatives and the background info.
My point is that terrorism can succeed here given the right circumstances and the right methods and ruthlessness, like mass murder with WMDs.
Agree wholeheartedly. The irrational rulings of some Courts, often contradictory between Districts or at different levels, is only going to stoke these nutcases. The fact of obvious inadequacies of this system adds more fuel to the fire of taking the law into their own hands(Enron - Skilling/Lay go to trial in 2006?!?)
That was exactly my point, thanks FRiend.
She was his big gumbah, so to speak.
Whoever said that nutcases were rational?
That's the problem with fanatics - they often lash out without any regard for where the blows land.
This is in the Chicago area. Odds are it's not a nutcase ~ just another criminal.
Odd, that silly suppostion. Here, go educate yourself:
That's how Reconstruction was ended: by a political decision made in Washington nearly a full twelve years after Appomattox, not a bunch of guys running around on horseback after hours that even the "Wizard of the Saddle" himself disdained to have anything to do with after they turned to violence.
The end of Reconstruction was a compromise between the Democrats and Republicans. The Klan had little or nothing to do with that. However, for years after Reconstruction ended, white supremacists did have a reign of terror in parts of the country. The Federal government for the most part looked the other way while the Klan did whatever it wanted. Lynchings were an effective means of terrorism.
The "dead relatives" were her husband and her mother.

I remember looking up this "church" on the Internet after that lunatic shot those people. They literally are Nazis! I remember two or their slogans, "Racial Holy War" and "Our Race is Our Religion." Their website was filled with all sorts of vile slander against blacks and Jews. They also denounced Christianity and had unkind things to say about a Jew named Jesus. I don't know how many followers there are. They can't be very bright but they must be mentally unstable -- I don't think they could coordinate anything themselves but they would be useful idiots for Islamic terrorists. It would not surprise me at all if the Islamic terrorists were working with various fringe hate groups.
