Judge George Greer denied Terri's parents' Motion for a Stay to protect their daughter's life while there are still pending issues in this LIFE AND DEATH MATTER. In addition the Department of Children and Family Services made a surprise visit to the court hearing the other day and asked Judge Greer if they could approach the bench. Judge Greer denied DCF the opportunity to speak. DCF asked for 60 days to conduct a complete investigation of allegations that have surfaced in the form of a Complaint to their agency.

What was set in motion instead? On Friday, February 25th, Judge Greer REFUSED TO issue another Stay because he was "not comfortable" issuing a say to protect a Ward of the State but instead "set a date certain" (on his calendar at least, not on mine) to BEGIN THE BARBARIC, ANTI-AMERICAN, STARVATION-DEHYDRATION SLOW MURDER OF TERRI.

Attorney Gibbs for Terri's parents held a press conference after J. Greer's order that was so tastefully written to indicate that "he was giving the Schindlers until March 18th so they could "prepare for Last Rites." Attorneys Gibbs called this ruling and prior rulings "Hitler-resque". Indeed.

If Judge Greer wasn't LEGALIZING EUTHANASIA in his courtroom, why any need for Last Rites? Greer's urgency to fulfill this killing places urgency on every one of us to lobby Governor Bush, Florida's House and Florida's Senate.

A Judge in America is ordering the manner of someone's death, a disabled woman who is healthy but needs rehabilitation.

Time is short so we don't really have time to get into Greer's mind to see why he is Florida's Til of the Hun.

I have not physically examined Terri Schiavo, however I base my opinions on my extensive experiences with my mother, who had Alzheimer’s dsease and a sever decrease in cerebral tissue, whom I personally cared for for over twenty years. I have read articles and seen pictures of Terri Schiavo on the news and on the Internet.

Based on my observations and experiences, Terri Schiavo is not in a persistent vegetative state. Someone in a persistent vegetative state has no cortical activity and would not be able to smile or cognitively respond to external stimuli, and Mrs. Schiavo is able to do both.

I have not seen Mrs. Schiavo, but in the videos that I have seen of her on the Internet, it is apparent to me that she is communicating. At least she seems to be making attempts to communicate. We usually consider talking to be the only means of communication, but facial expressions and body language communicate too. There seems to be a lot of communication going on with Mrs. Schiavo.

Worked extensively with severly brain-damaged people for over 20 years, did research, wrote a book, about memory loss and taught university classes over the last 10 years.

I have also read articles and seen videotapes of Ms. Schiavo over the Internet, from which I am able to render an educated opinion.

Based on my observations and experience, it is my opinion that Ms. Schiavo would be able to learn how to swallow if given the proper therapy. I have personally treated stroke patients, and other patients with sever brain damage similar to Ms. Schiavo’s that have regained their ability to swallow after being given proper therapy.

I have seen several patents that are in a persistent vegetative state. I have also seen other patients that were diagnosed as being in a persistent vegetative state, and I saw several of those patients come back to a cognitive state when given proper therapy. Based on my experience, I know the difference between someone in a persistent vegetative state and someone who is not in this state. It is my opinion that Ms. Schiavo is not in a persistent vegetative state.

I earned my M.D. (MB, BCh, BAO) at the National University of Ireland in 1972, my F.R.C.S.I (equivalent of General Surgery Boards) at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1976, and Ph.D. in Physiology (Neurophysiology and Neuroanatomy) at the Northwestern University in Chicago Illinois in 1983 as well as a Neurology Residency at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta Georgia in 1997.

In my 32 years of biomedical research and development, I have collaborated with leading neuroscientists and other medical professionals from institutions such as Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, Emory University, the national Instituites of Health, and the Veterans Administration as well as private companies in my field.

Based on what I know about terri Schiavo’s current condition, I strongly recommend that she be allowed the opportunity fo be examined through the use of an fMRI. Beyond the fMRI, there are several other recent advances in medical treatment and technology, which may benefit Terri Schiavo. There are newer technologies since what was available in 2002 that will allow us to determine if Terri Schiavo can be assessed for signs of cortical function. There are also technologies that we have developed for providing this communication even for “locked-in” patients.

Why do you think Rush won't allow Terri's name mentioned on his program? He says on "Open-Line" Friday that callers can discuss whatever they want. This could not possibly be true. Surely, dozens of Terri supporters have flooded his lines on many, many Fridays since the first starvation/dehydration went out from "Haman" Greer in 2001. Rush should rephrase his claim about "Open-Line Friday. It should be: "you callers have the right to bring up material that I have not yet mentioned but approve of putting on the air!" Thus far, clearly Rush has refused to mention Terri. Maybe he is unaware of all the "fuss" about her.

I spend a large amount of time providing swallowing therapy.
I base my opinions on my unique knowledge and experience working with patients in similar condition.

It is my opinion that a patient can never have too much therapy, at any stage. Without giving Ms. Schiavo therapy, she does not have a chance to improve. She deserves at least six months of five day a week therapy to see if she can progress at all. There is a relatively new swallowing therapy called VitalStim. It is an electro-therapy used to re-strengthen the throat muscles. It trains throat uscls to function again, by using small electrical currents to stimulate the muscles responsible for swallowing. The success rate for VitalStim has been huge. This therapy was approved by the FDA in 1977, however, it has only been widely publicized and recognized as vry successful treatment within the past several years.

I was certified to use VitalStim in October 2004, and I use this therapy on a number of the patients I work with at the hospital and residential care. The success rate is overwhelming.

I specialize only in neurologic problems. I deal with the recoverable brain. I have treated many cases of cerebral palsy, late manifestations of stroke, and traumatic brain injuries, as well as anoxic oncephalophy.

I have extensive experience dealing with cases like Ms. Schiavo. I have treated patients all over the world and shown substantial improvement in these patients. I once trated a patient who was in a coma for fourteen years. He became a unctioning member of society.

There have been many medical and technological advances in just the past few years in the evaluation and treatment of traumatic brain injury. I recommend that a Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography scan be done on Ms. Schiavo to test the current status of blood flow and metabolism in the brain. This should be done as a baseline. She should then receive a trial of 20 and 40 hyperbaric oxygen treatments at 1.5 ATA and a repeat SPECT scan performed. Frequently, this will show areas of improved flow and metabolism, known as the Ischemic penumbra, and area of dormant idling meurons receiving enough oxygen to exist, but not enough to fire electrically. Should improved flow and metabolism be noted, a multi-disciplinary program would be mandatory consisting of hyperbaric oxygen in conjunction with PT, OT, speech, appropriate nutrition, neuro feedback, herbal medication, acupuncture etc. A SPECT scan is the ultimate form of brain death assessment. It far supersedes the flat EEG or actual blood flow study.

A neurologist (such as Dr. William Hammesfehr) should be consulted and could determine whether or not he would perhaps agree that the SPECT scan with trial of hyperbaric oxygenation would be indicated to ascertain viable and potentially recoverable brain tissue. PVS is not a manifestation or death. Please not the recent news release of a young woman who spontaneously fully awoke from a coma (PVS) and begaon talking and responding after 20 years in a vegetative state.

I have, however, observed photographs of her on the Internet. Based on what I have seen, I believe that she is at least in a Minimally Conscious State (MCS); she does not appear to be in a Persistent Vegetative State (PVS)

Judging Ms. Schiavo based on the Rancho Los Amigos Scale, which has ten levels of cognitive functioning, with level one being representative of coma, I believe she is at worst a two, if not a three.

I recommend that Ms. Schiavo receive an fMRI. A standard MRI or CAT Scan is not a sufficient diagnostic tool to determine if she is or is not in a Persistent Vegetative State.

I believe that proper evaluation is a must on a patient that is at ms. Schiavo’s stge of recovery; regardless of if they are conscious, minimally conscious, or vegetative. I believe strongly that her treatment should include the disorders of conscious scale, which will help decide what other treatment is appropriate.

I recommend tht Ms. Schiavo also receive a full history and physical exam, including but not limited to looking at her past medical history, medical records, current medications, available imaging studies, and current and past laboratory results. For example, it could be that she is on a narcotic for pain control, and once this medicatin is removed, she would further progress. I say this because many medications cause decreased cognitive functioning.

I have been actively involved in SPECT imaging of all body areas for 20 years, with a particular focus on the brain since 1992.

My expertise includes the application of semi-quantitative regional brain imaging for normal and abnormal comparisons, for evaluation of both anatomic and functional brain disorders, and for the effects of any therapeutic interventions as part of the healing process.

At this time, I do not have an opinion one way or another about the current mental state of Terris Schiavo, because I have not had the opportunity to examine her. As I have seen this case in the media, I have wondered whether or not anyone has tested s. Schiavo’s level of brain function, which is different than examining only her brain anatomy using a standard MRI.

The procedure I use, brain SPECT, is an evaluative test; it is not a therapy. It is a type of brain functional imaging. MRIs and CAT scans are good for examining anatomy, but they do not tell you about brain function. The brain SPECT will tell us if Ms. Schiavo has any level of brain function.
