Abbas has not done the one thing that would convince Israelis that he is serious about peace. He must crack down on the various factions carrying out terrorist attacks. Unless he does this and recognizes Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state then peace is not possible.

Abbas is not the leader of the Palestinians--if he does not speak for them nor if they do not do what he says they will do. That is not a leader.

He is the new Media Mouthpiece that the PA needs to fill the airwaves with Islamic slop. Call for a "cease-fire" and use the situation to attack the unsuspecting, trusting enemy. That is a Muslim's version of a "fair fight". The same as what the US got with the "cease-fires" in Najaf.

Islam's definition of peace is people submitting to the will of the group with the biggest sword. That is Islamic Peace.

Of course peace is possible as long as of all Israel is given up and the Jews driven to the sea. If Israel is not willing to do that it is obivious that they are not committed to the peace process! / sarcasm off in case you did not know I was being sarcastic

Abu Allah is rumoured to resign in the next few days because of his lack of ability to form a govt in the Palestinian regions.

Abbas fires three security chiefs after militants violate truce
Gulf-news / Reuters ^ | 2/11/05

Ramallah: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas fired three security chiefs yesterday after militants, defying his truce with Israel, launched mortar bombs at Jewish colonies and gunmen raided a Gaza jail.

A Palestinian security official said Abdul Razeq Al Majaydeh, public security chief for the West Bank and Gaza, National Police Chief Saeb Al Ajez and Omar Ashour, commander of the security forces in the southern Gaza Strip, were dismissed.

"Abu Mazen (Abbas) was angered by the mortar fire and the jail attack," the official said, citing a "security deterioration" in the Gaza Strip.

Earlier, Hamas militants launched mortar bombs at Jewish colonies in the Gaza Strip, the first sustained firing since Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon proclaimed a truce at a summit in Egypt on Tuesday.

Hamas said it was responding to the Israeli army's killing of a Palestinian near a Gaza colony on Wednesday.

In an incident yesterday, dozens of Palestinian gunmen burst into a Gaza prison and killed three inmates in what police described as score-settling between feuding clans.

The dismissals were announced hours after Abbas ordered security forces to enforce the ceasefire.

Abbas is in a situation I would not want.. I do think he would like peace, but if he oversteps his bounds to achieve it, HAMMAS will simply kill him....

We will see how it goes.

I'm sure he does think peace is possible. That is, after Israel is pushed into the sea.

Thus far, he has been consistent in saying that he's not going to confront them, but try to "bring them into the political process." </barf>
