Geeks or Liberals? Hmmmmm, sometimes not easy to tell the difference.
Been to both Headquarters....MacApple is MacLiberal
Was it not for Educational/Graphic arts product "placements", Apple would have been gone long ago.
Buy an iPod, help a Lib.
All rechargable batteries wear out, all of them. Even the long lived wet-cell battery in your automobile has a lifespan.
Current rate for battery replacement is under $100. In either event, there is no possible way to make a rechargable battery that doesn't little it's ability to hold a charge, with each subsequent charge.
Problem is that it's a lie. Apple does indeed replace batteries in Ipods.
Right . Quality's got nothing to do with it. Get real.
Buy an iPod, help a Lib.
Are you gonna go through life only buying products made by Conservatives? That's ridiculous. How would you ever know? What if the Boss was conservative and all the employees are libs? See how silly that is?
I'm a PC guy from the word go. I don't even like Apple, let alone the cult of Macintosh. However, after listening to the Ipod, the Dell Jukebox and the Creative Zen, the choice was clear. Neither the Dell or the Creative player approached the Ipod in sound quality.
I just hope that if I decide to buy one of these new music gizmos that all the problems are worked out.
Subscription music is probably the wave of the future, but I like ownership.
Bump for later browse.
When did they do this? My U2 Special Edition Ipod, purchased in December came with both firewire and USB 2.0 cables.
Er, do you have any experience with Apple products that were manufactured in this century?
We're obviously in different income brackets.
Some manufacturers will sell product at low margins designed with proprietary batteries only THEY can supply. The accessories, such as batteries, are then REALLY jacked up in price. Also, older generation batteries can be shipped with the product, not the latest technology.
Not saying MacApple is doing this.....but it would not surprise me.
The work-around for this problem is after-market battery suppliers IF they are allowed to manufacture iPod replacements. One way to watch MacApple on this is to see if they go after after-market battery suppliers in court.
If not, google "replacement batteries ipod" and check out the milliamp hour (mA H) ratings. Generally, the larger, the better. Also, Lithium Ion types usually are not known for memory problems.
Maybe some other techno-FReepers can dig into this further. Battery technology changes FAST.
I'm glad you're not blinded by the MS Koolaid. I'm the same way, I prefer Macs - but by no means do they do everything right - and if somebody does something better I'm not afraid to say so.
My, you DO carry a grudge... First of all, the price in 1987 for your IIgs was only $999... plus $495 for a color monitor. Compare that to the $2495 for a basic PC and $2999 for the Macintosh. The IIgs were built in response to the Amiga 500 ($1295 plus monitor - if I recall correctly) and Atari ST.
As for your complaint about the battery, you have a point... but only on the very first ROM I version which was replaced after only about 3 months.
If your IIgs logic board is ROM 1 (256k), then the battery requires leads, which are very hard to come by nowadays. . . The IIgs ROM 2 (512k) and IIgs ROM 3 (1 megabyte) logic board hav a battery holder and will only require removing its cap to replace the old one.
Apple did not require the you to "replace the motherboard" simply because the CMOS battery was soldered in (an almost industry wide standard at the time). A reputable Apple service dealer would replace the battery for a nominal charge. Your local "computer" store was trying to rip you off.
Apple's miserable quality may have chased me off, but their arrogance will keep me away, permanently!
Apple has never been challenged on "quality" and their service has always been considered the "gold standard" in the industry. Your experience with a "local dealer" is not the general experience of Apple customers.
Not ridiculous at all. I usually buy after comparing specs & prices first, then look to what the Company/Leadership means to me.
MacApple means liberal $$ to me, so I go elsewhere.
Its not the employees, but the B.O.D. and the CEO I have interest in. Workerbees can be lib or conservative, makes no difference to me whatsoever.
Steve Jobs' politics don't suit me and I have equivalent or better products outside of Appleland Yes, Im a Geek & built-up my own computer. Man, I hate to admit that in public-don't tell anyone ;)
