Your whole rant is based on the WCBS report, which is riddled with errors.

I love it. Now I'm being called a liar. Here's the latest news about the new "think different" scheme to not include the adapter with new i-pods.

The article you linked to claims "not everyone has powered USB ports on their PCs". That is a load of crap... the USB standard REQUIRES 500 milliamps of power be available on every USB port.

How about telling us what happened? Personal rant-- if a poster posts an item, he ought to provide explanations to those who are not necessarily able to access things like online videos. A poster who posts from a subscription-source ought to write a brief summary of the article or provide a "bugmenot"--otherwise it's just a source of frustration. If it's generally unavailable--do a little writing!

What about IPod batteries only last 18 months is so hard for you to understand? Jerk.

It's almost 20 years later. Might be time to let that Apple grudge go. Most of the employees are different now.

Yes, it's been years, but I believe there are alternatives available that better meet my needs, at FAR lower prices.

Sorry, but it's not going to happen.

Follow some of the links -- the "best" one, showing how to replace the battery yourself is:

Hmmm, ok last time I checked my mac at home has had an uptime of 232 days. That is 232 days without a single reboot. Final cut pro, Photoshop, Garageband, Office X, Gimp, Open office, Firefox, Avid, and just about any Unix app you could ever want, etc etc, Yep all proprietary and crappy you really got us mac users with that one.

It was an Apple IIgs. Linux hadn't even been invented yet. You might want to actually read my post before you freak out.

And if you ignite a model rocket engine in a gas-soaked iPod battery compartment, they EXPLODE too!

Great. No need to get mac stuff. But you might want to not complain about a 17 year old problem when the rest of us are talking about modern equiptment.

My old TI-994A had a load of problems....I hardly hold that against all TI products today.

None of this junk is true.

Clearly it is true, or these people would not be bitching about their Ipods.

http://forksplit.blogspot.com/2005/02/hot-battery-problem.html

Make sure you read the comments at the end which almost universally roast Apple tech support (especially the long lines at Apple stores, the CBS video catches employees lying about egtting replacement Ipods). The best options seems to be people mailing their dead Ipods back and getting them replaced. There still seems to be controversy whether you get a new one or a a refurbished one (w/o your music)back.

Also true, is the guy in the CBS video who replaces the batter for $65 or so in 10 minutes. For those who are not technically able to do it themsleves this seems to be another option. But it's still $65 on top of the Ipods original purchase price.

Most of your information has been demonstrated as false, so now that's all you got.

Back in '87, I bought an (expensive!) Apple IIgs

I bought a Duran Duran CD once, and now I think all recorded music is crap.

There are free market solutions. But should a mass market piece of merchandise be designed with a lifespan shorter than most consumers expect, and only offer expensive solutions via third parties?

Lets be realistic, what percentage of Ipod users are really capable of doing this, and it's still $30 for the battery:

" It was an Apple IIgs. Linux hadn't even been invented yet. You might want to actually read my post before you freak out."

I read your post and I saw what your computer was. My point was if you think that is where Apple and Mac OS is today you are clueless about macs as are most people who start ranting about such things. This whole thread was started by someone clueless about ipods. Some of us are just trying to clear up disinformation. However, for some Apple could come out with an OS and a computer that would run everything both faster and cheaper and some would still find something to complain about. If microshaft comes out with a better OS than OS X then I will be the first one to switch, however, until that day comes I am keeping what I have.

I wish Jobs would release an Intel version of the Mac OS

That would instantly end Apple's computer manufacturing.

Your post made perfect sense to me. Apple wants to be in the battery business as well as the digital jukebox business. Ray-O-Vac should watch their back.
