Your Oscar Predictions?
self

Posted on 02/26/2005 12:19:12 AM PST by L.A.Justice

Best Picture:

1. The Aviator

2. Sideways

3. Finding Neverland

4. Million Dollar Baby

5. Ray

Which should win: I have seen all of them...Between Sideways and The Aviator, I liked Sideways.

Which will win: The Aviator.

Best Director:

Martin Scorsese for THE AVIATOR (Miramax)

Clint Eastwood for MILLION DOLLAR BABY (Warner Bros.)

Taylor Hackford for RAY (Universal Pictures)

Alexander Payne for SIDEWAYS (Fox Searchlight)

Mike Leigh for VERA DRAKE (Fine Line Features)

Comment: I did not watch VERA DRAKE...A film, about a woman doing abortions, did not interest me. Again, my choice would be SIDEWAYS. But, THE AVIATOR will probably win.

Best Actor:

Don Cheadle for HOTEL RWANDA (United Artists)

Johnny Depp for FINDING NEVERLAND (Miramax)

Leonardo DiCaprio for THE AVIATOR (Miramax)

Clint Eastwood for MILLION DOLLAR BABY (Warner Bros.)

Jamie Foxx for RAY (Universal Pictures)

Note: I did not see HOTEL RWANDA...My choice is Leo. But, Foxx will win.

Best Supporting Actor:

Alan Alda for THE AVIATOR (Miramax)

Thomas Haden Church for SIDEWAYS (Fox Searchlight)

Jamie Foxx for COLLATERAL (Dreamworks SKG)

Morgan Freeman for MILLION DOLLAR BABY (Warner Bros.)

Clive Owen for CLOSER (Columbia Pictures)

Note: Church would be my pick. But, Freeman will win.

Best Actress in a Leading Role:

Annette Bening - BEING JULIA (Sony Pictures Classics)

Catalina Sandino Moreno - MARIA FULL OF GRACE (Fine Line Features)

Imelda Staunton - VERA DRAKE (Fine Line Features)

Hilary Swank for MILLION DOLLAR BABY (Warner Bros.)

Kate Winslet for ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND (Focus Features

Note: I have not seen BEING JULIA...Hilary Swank will win.

Best Supporting Actress:

Cate Blanchett for THE AVIATOR (Miramax)

Laura Linney - KINSEY (Fox Searchlight Pictures)

Virginia Madsen for SIDEWAYS (Fox Searchlight)

Sophie Okonedo - HOTEL RWANDA (United Artists)

Natalie Portman for CLOSER (Columbia Pictures

Note: I did not watch KINSEY...I think Blanchett will win. I think she deserves it...

Oscar? Wasn't he in the Odd Couple?

Yes, and I thought the Best Picture was Wings.

I'm waiting for Clint Eastwood to fulfill his promise and beat the crap out Michael Moore. Unfortunately, it would require Moore showing up on Clint's property(like he did to Charlton Heston in Bowling for Columbine), and Clint already put him on notice.

WOW! Those were my EXACT picks, with most of the same "buts" , also. I posted them about three weeks ago on a thread I can't even remember now. One can usually gauge the winners if one is attuned to the exact amount of buzz/non-buzz coalescing around each nominee. I don't think there will be any surprises. It's time for Scorsese to win both best Director and Best Picture, and though I haven't seen it, AVIATOR seems a vehicle designed to win as many awards as possible. But I can't imagine enjoying it more than SIDEWAYS, which was utterly perfect in so many ways. So honest it was thrilling. There should be thirty movies as good as that every year, instead there are usually between one and three.

IMHO opinion, Best Picture: "Sideways", next, "Finding Neverland", next, Hotel Rwanda, next, "Ray", next, "Million Dollar Baby". "Aviator" was very good, but as usual the overbearing and ever liberal Mr. Scorcese screwed up a good story. Surprisingly, Leo DeCaprio did a very good job of portraying Howard Hughes, he was just not the right type for the role. As for Alec Baldwin's protrayal of Juan Trippe, the poor left-wing idiot didn't have a clue. Again, IMHO, Martin Scorcese should join fellow "Democrat" Michael Moore in the sea of lost artists!!! Mr. Scorcese deserves no "OSCAR" for this weak portrayal of the powerful and mystic Howard Hughes!!!

I knew Juan Trippe, and when it came to business politics, raising funds and negotiating positive deals for Pan Am, Trippe had no equal in the commerical airline industry. Just read the history of Pan Am from its inception up until the time Trippe retired in 1968. The best part of the Trippe/Hughes saga was passed by avoiding the issue of "The Community Company", Trippe's idea for Pan Am to become the "single" American flag carrier around the world.

I predict the crappiest movie with the most liberal byline will win, as usual.

Well, then it might be 'Million Dollar Baby', that "kindly sneaks" euthanasia into the storyline!

;-)

When a pedophile movie wins best picture you know Hollyweird has gone off the homo deep end and that why no one wants to watch their puke anymore.

I've seen em all.

Best pic - Million Dollar Baby

Best actor - Jamie Fox - Ray

Best actress - Hillary Swank - Million Dollar Baby

But the only movie that will be regarded as a classic and will still be viewed in 100 years is The Passion of the Christ.

Your Oscar Predictions:
The program's ratings will drop lower, and there will be talk about replacing them with more "reality TV".

The only way to raise the rating is to get someone to shoot an apple off Michael Moore's head using a 16" rifled battleship bore at ten paces

--> Wouldn't this shave off a little more than the apple? (Sly Grin) :D

My prediction?

That Michael Moore has already contacted Omar the Tentmaker about getting this year's tux made for him.

And that I won't watch.

Couldn't if I wanted to.

But I don't want to.

Actually I think pedophila was the theme two years in a row. The movie about the guy hiding in France because of pedohilia charges in the US and the The Piano movie.

I caught bits of Sideways on an Oscar review and found it irresistible. Here's hoping Thomas Hayden Church wins supporting actor.

Here are my predictions:

I won't watch it.
There will be several anti Bush statements made.
There will be several anti conservative jokes made.
There will no anti liberal jokes made.
Winners will be selected on the basis of political considerations.
Vacuous stars will be well represented.
Everyone will take themselves way to seriously.
Self important speeches will be made.
Ignorance will be in abundance.
If Monica Belluci attends she will look good.
