Almost 50 percent of Americans, according to recent polls, and millions of people elsewhere in the world believe that UFOs are real. For many it is a deeply held belief.
For decades there have been sightings of UFOs by millions and millions of people. It is a mystery that only science can solve, and yet the phenomenon remains largely unexamined. Most of the reporting on this subject by the mainstream media holds those who claim to have seen UFOs up to ridicule.
On Feb. 24, "Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs Seeing Is Believing" takes a fresh look at the UFO phenomenon. "As a journalist," says Jennings, "I began this project with a healthy dose of skepticism and as open a mind as possible. After almost 150 interviews with scientists, investigators and with many of those who claim to have witnessed unidentified flying objects, there are important questions that have not been completely answered and a great deal not fully explained."
"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs Seeing Is Believing" airs Thursday, Feb. 24 from 8-10 p.m. ET on ABC. The program will be broadcast in High Definition.
This two-hour primetime special reports on the entire scope of the UFO experience from the first famous sighting by Kenneth Arnold in 1947 to the present day. The program draws on interviews with police officers, pilots, military personnel, scientists and ordinary citizens who give extraordinary accounts of encounters with the unexplained. Also included are the voices of professional skeptics about UFOs, including scientists who are leading the search for life forms beyond Earth elsewhere in the universe.
The program explores the facts behind the enduring mystery of the incident at Roswell, N.M., and looks into the strange stories of alien abductions. Among the UFO cases presented:
Minot Air Force Base, N.D., October 1968 Sixteen airmen on the ground and the crew of an airborne B-52 witness a massive unidentified object hovering near the base.
Phoenix, March 1997 Hundreds witness a huge triangular craft moving slowly over the city.
St. Clair County, Ill., January 2000 Police officers in five adjoining towns all independently report witnessing a giant craft with multiple bright lights moving silently across the sky at a very low altitude.
Today if you report a UFO to the U.S. government you will be informed that the Air Force conducted a 22-year investigation that ended in 1969 and concluded that UFOs are not a threat to national security and are of no scientific interest. But as one of the world's leading theoretical physicists says in the program, "You simply cannot dismiss the possibility that some of these UFO sightings are actually sightings from some object created by a civilization perhaps millions of years ahead of us in technology."
"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs Seeing Is Believing" is produced by PJ Productions and Springs Media for ABC News. Mark Obenhaus and Tom Yellin are the executive producers.
I don't think they claim to be able to prove it. Or claim it to be a fact. They just believe it likely, which is as legitimate as believing it unlikely, IMO.
Such would be a close encounter of the last kind.
Not relationtional, the provable and the unprovable. Once you venture one inch into the unprovable, the sky is the limit, or might as well be. Now, small steps into the unknown may be provable over time, based on hypothesis, but modern science is nowhere near proving that either life can be created by random events, or that life exists on other planets. Until there's anything close to demonstrating either is possible, there's simply no reason to believe it probable. They're welcome to keep trying, but they have been for decades, and are no closer than when they began. At this point in history, life is still a miracle, and is only known to exist here on earth. From what we've seen so far, those are the only known facts, and they may never change.
I think there are in fact plenty of reasons. This goes for many unprovable things. Religion included.
Plenty of reasons for what exactly? If we really don't know, we really don't know. As for religion, it exists simply because there is some evidence that miracles were performed by a unseen spirit. There is no concrete proof of the spirit, but there are otherwise unexplained phenomenon attributed to it, due to the relationship of those who believe and their witness of the miracles.
Plenty of reasons for thinking (some) things are likely that cannot be proven. Such as the probability of the existence of life elsewhere in the universe. I haven't disagreed with you that the unproven is not knowable, though. It isn't, as you say.
Right, the difference in our opinion is that you think the probability of the unknown is equal to the probability it isn't possible. But, that's just not the case, since there is no way to measure the probability of the unknown, it basically equals 1 over infinity, at least when it's nowhere close to being proven.
Being a technology buff myself, I'd love to get my hands on some alien technology, especially if it came with a good manual, LOL. But, since there's no real evidence that any alien technology exists, there's no reason for me to get my hopes up. I'll keep my eyes and ears open, just in case it happens in my lifetime, but, I've been waiting a long time now, and so far nothing. While I was quite hopeful as a young man, as I've gotten older, I've had to accept the reality of the situation - all we have in tangible form from space so far is a few meteorites, and moon rocks. If I come across anything else, this will be one of the first places I announce.
Have to sign off now, enjoyed it as always. Best to you and yours.
Enjoyed it too, and also best to you and yours.
Hmmm Did you see the famous abduction from the Brooklyn Bridge out of the 11th floor window of a high rise apt bldg?
Care to describe what you saw?
I wouldn't doubt you at all!
Our government CAN keep secrets for several decades. A recent couple of cases in point were some of the radiation and syphilis studies were successfully kept secret for several decades.
And, there HAVE been many UFO leaks of info. Tons of first person accounts are in the literature.
I agree.
What are you referring to????
I'm clueless about your comment.
Thanks.
I still believe my relative about that.
As well as hundreds of other first hand reports.
I understand your perspective.
There have been cases reported where the victim had a loaded gun virtually in his hands.
The mind control still set in so quickly that he was still immobilized too quickly to use the gun.
Many of us watching the UFO stuff for 4 decades or so have noticed a very incremental disclosure process that MUST be very planned, calculated, deliberate.
If my memory serves me right, there's some plans available on the net for how to build one type of model craft using some form of zeropoint energy. I don't remember the details. But there were photos of the models flying.
That whole Brooklyn Bridge story seems fictional to me. No witnesses till months and years after?

No one was clamoring for information about radiation and syphilis. PROOF of UFO's couldn't last 5 years under wraps, not without human extermination. Let's hope that's not the case, if so, we have more to fear than just the aliens.
There have evidently been 100's killed to keep them quiet.
I think you have misread the evidence about the Brooklyn Bridge abduction. There's been tons of followup on it. Lots of things have checked out.
I keep up with these sightings, have for decades. The two best unexplained ones of the last few years both happened last year.
One in Mexico, reported by their Government:

The other by NASA, captured on Mars:

I have no reason to believe these are alien ships, impossible to know what they are without further info. Most everything else the last few years, hoaxes or misidentifications, from what I can tell. Have a good night.
