A teenage girl and two young men in Iran have been sentenced to lashes for having sex. The court dismissed the girl's claim that we was raped. It said she had sex of her own free will, the official Iran Daily newspaper reported.
The girl was sentenced to 100 lashes because her accusations of rape and kidnap could have landed her partners a death penalty, the Tehran judge said.
Sex outside marriage is illegal in Iran and capital punishment can be imposed.
The young men in the case were sentenced to 30 and 40 lashes each.
Rights violations
The Iran paper quotes the girl, who has not been named, as confessing: "I trusted one of these young men, whom I got to know by phone, and went to his place.
"But because he betrayed me, I filed the case against him and his friend out of revenge."
International concerns continue to be raised about women's rights in Iran.
In December the UN General Assembly voted to censure Iran for human rights violations, including discrimination against women and girls.
Tehran rejected the criticism as propaganda.
Under Iranian law, girls over the age of nine and boys over 16 face the death penalty for crimes such as rape and murder, while capital punishment can be imposed in certain cases of illegal sexual relationships.

Chances are good she'll die. 100 lashes is barely survivable. Men aren't always conscious after 10.

I'm thinking that it might be good for the beating to be televised world wide, you know, bridging cultural gaps and that sort of thing.
I'm sure the true muslims would like to showcase their religion, also as a reminder to wayward muslims, and lastly to impress non-muslims with the greatness of the muslim way of life.

It is a crime because that girl was in all likelihood was raped. There seems to be a tendency to let men off easy in Muslim countries and punish the victim. Killing the boys would create the threat of revenge against the local officials. The girl's family on the other hand might kill her for dishonoring them, if she survives the lashes. Yeah, those are some wonderful cultures over there. I have had the standard lecture from some Muslims, I have met over the years, about how immoral the West has become. At first I pondered their comments but the next time I hear it, I have decided to laugh in their face. Since our society does not allow violence as a response to stupidity, I suggest that you just use sarcasm and try to avoid puking the next time they start spouting their nonsense.

This photo is from the BBC article. It appears this young girl (probably a different victim) was buried in the ground and stoned.
It's misleading. If you would have moved your pointer over the picture, you would have seen this caption: "Iranian demonstrator mocks up a stoning scene during protests in Genoa, Italy, in 2001."

Only someone psychotic could think the Muslim way is better than what we have to deal with here.
And only an idiot would see nothing wrong with the way we embrace abortion as a sacrament. (Yes, I know you didn't say that, but, then again, I never said that "the Muslim way is better.") Evil is evil, no matter where it occurs.

I don't agree with the sentence for banging each other, but the punishment for false accusation sits with me just fine.NO WOMAN deserves to be lashed or beaten or otherwise abused. No woman deserves to live under Sharia Law. I dont care if the accusation was false, she does not deserve to be lashed. It is nothing more than torture.

100 lashes sounds like it could be a death sentence.Absolutely. Coporal punishment in the British Navy was 12-36 lashes on the average with a "Cat-O-9-Tails" (per the history channel.) Depending on the implement it very well could be a death sentence.

In Iran you can bet all the ruling mullahs will turn out to watch this punishment. After all, it's not every day you get to see a nubile young girl stripped naked to the waist while squirming and screaming while you bend her to your proud and erect principles.
It is, of course, Allah's will.

Iranian women are some of the most beautiful in the world. A shame they are opressed by the sub-human mullahs.

I don't know about that but I'd say their DEATH rate is top of the charts. Their people don't live long enough to become infected!

Another Google-challenged moron...
AIDS is not usually spread by normal heterosexual sex.

What does abortion have to do with this? You do realize that everything is not about abortion, right? This story is about a backwards culture that gets off on beating women.
