Prayer for Pope John Paul II
Jesus, please wrap Your loving arms around our Pope John Paul II. Guide him and give him strength. Be with him when he's sick, troubled, or needs support. The Pope guides your people, Lord. Help him everyday to follow Your will. Thank you. Amen.
If God calls the Holy Father to his rest, I will celebrate his life and mourn his passing, knowing that JPII truly is a Man of Faith and one who fulfilled his calling to serve others. This Pope, perhaps as none before him, has borne the weight of the world upon his shoulders, along with the joys and burden of being the spiritual leader of a billion Catholics worldwide. Think of the world-changing events that have occurred during his long tenure as Pope. He has been there, providing the moral clarity and Christian vision that we have needed.
As a Catholic convert, I have come to have a deep respect and love for this man, who has served his God and his Lord's Church so faithfully these many years. I am touched to this day by the picture of the Holy Father visiting his would-be assassin, Mehmet Ali Agca, in his jail cell. The message he sent by this act, one of compassion and forgiveness in a world where the everyday themes run to those more along the lines of the vengeance of the High Plains Drifter, moves me in a powerful and inspiring way that is hard to describe. I pray for the Pope's recovery and renewed health, but if it is God's will that he go to his reward in Heaven, I will know that his was a life well-lived. Remember the famous words, the true measure of the size of a man's heart is not how much he loves, but how much he is loved by others.
I did too. :)

Thank you.
I LEARNED something today too.
I never knew the reason.
Thanks again.
Thanks MineralMan. Most FReepers have integrity like yourself.
This is distressing for me, because he is essentially the only Pope I know--I vaguely recall Pope John Paul I.
After 30, we are all useless or worthless.
So what's the difference, 30, or 150.
God bless you anyway.
Mods are BUSY but doing a fabulous job mopping the aisles today.
Sheeeeesh, you'd think folks who don't give a dang would just keep quiet.
"That having been said, I don't mind if the haters want to bash the Pope here. I don't have to read or listen to them. Let's not get too caught up in being so sensitive, such as the liberals who are 'offended' when they see mention of God. "
Well, you have a point, but that's not the rule here. Some threads lend themselves to a lively debate. This thread, however, is not one of those, and the moderators apparently agree.
It's really not a matter of being "offended" or having "hurt feelings." It's a matter of common courtesy. The Pope is obviously a personage of great importance to many Freepers. For some Freepers to enter a thread like this one and criticize Catholicism just isn't appropriate. Some posts have done even worse than that.
You're a good person. Thanks mineralman.
I agree with you, you're right. I am just trying to pull something positive out of others' negativity. Or at least take the opportunity to try to help them....
areafiftyone probably did the Mods a service by linking that thread here. LMAO!!!
Well stated.
Who could find offense in that lovely hymn? Thank you for posting it.

He is the third Pope I remember. The death of a Pope affects more people than the death of any other leader in the world. There's no question about that. Catholics inhabit every nation on this planet, and the Pope represents them as a spiritual leader and guide. The death of a Pope is a major world event.
I hope this Pope recovers and is able to resume his pastoral duties. If he does not, I'm quite certain that the long traditions of the Roman Catholic Church will produce a new Pope who will be up to the task of taking on that role.
Although I am an atheist, I'm more than aware of the power the Pope has to lead the followers of Catholicism, and I will mourn with all Catholics on the occasion of his death.
It is very sad that some cannot appreciate the impact this humble man has on so many people. Only those who lack respect for themselves can show so little respect for the beliefs of others.
The Pope is in my thoughts today.
