We don't worship the Pope.

But we love him and it pains us to see him suffering.

if i am not mistaken, CJ Rehnquist has a trach and he swore in President Bush on inauguration day.

I remember reading on Inauguration day that the CJ was fitted with a special device so he could speak for that occasion.

Thanks.
I am totally confused.
God is with him.
I know that.
Maybe his time on earth is coming to end,
but I sure hate to see it.

I need to call husband back.
He's very upset.
I still don't know what to tell him.
Conflicting news.

Tell him this - whether in life or death, the Holy Father walks with the Lord, therefore he will never be lost or in darkness.

Regards, Ivan

Satan, the original adversary, who accused our brothers in the heavenly court, has now been cast down from heaven and therefore no longer has great power. He knows he has not much time left because history is about to see a radical turning point in freedom from evil and therefore he is reacting full of great fury.

Interesting!

Here are the words of a Protestant hymn, which I hope you won't find me offfensive in posting:

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word,
But as Thou dwell'st with Thy disciples, Lord,
Familiar, condescending, patient, free.
Come not to sojourn, but abide with me.

Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings;
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea.
Come, Friend of sinners, thus abide with me.

Thou on my head in early youth didst smile,
And though rebellious and perverse meanwhile,
Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee.
On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

This protestant was educated in a Catholic convent.

Whenever a nun died, the others would go about with a smile and a radiant look. Their sister had gone to her reward in heaven.

So let it be for John Paul, when the time comes.

I received a blessing from this Pope while I was in college. It was his first visit to the US. I'll never forget that. I feel like a much loved member of the family is passing away from us.

Extremely interesting. I don't know whether to take that as optimistic or not..... radical turning point in freedom from evil- I hope that means peace in the ME...amongst other places?

Though not RC, my prayers go out to the Pope and all who love him.

(This next statement is meant out of kindness, please don't interpret it any other way) Based on his age, and how he must have physically suffered over the last few years, I hope that he will pass over. I do believe that he will join our Holy Father in Heaven, which is the ultimate reward for any of us.

Please, we should all pray for him, Catholics and Non-Catholics alike. As the spiritual head of over a billion people, he is responsible for the guidance of his flock. That guidance is a great burden that hold him in greater accountability for the action of those that follow it. I believe that he has done what he feels was the right thing in his teaching and leadership, and still I will pray for him. For those of you who feel he has done otherwise, then you have a Christian duty to pray for him and his salvation.

Today is not the day to attack each other, but to join together in love, as we are praying for the salvation of a fellow Christian (physical and/or spiritual).

May God bless John Paul II, and may his will be done.

I am watching CNN because, much as I hate to admit it, their foreign correspondents are much better than anybody else's!

Well, when the only other option is Shep lamenting on his own self-importance, I can only say, I agree with you.

Bill Graham is a good and perhaps holy man. If he has ever slippped and defamed anyone, he has always made it clear it was a slip.

i think in effect what it is is an airhole right on the windpipe/larynx area, and in order to speak audibly, you have to cover the hole. my dearly departed SIL had one.

I am not even a Christian and I think the Pope has had a great moral impact on the world. I respect what he has done and what he stands for very much.

Same here - not Christian but recognize that he is truly a good man who has had a significant impact on the world.

All the world's Catholics have my heartfelt wishes for his complete recovery, or for his peaceful passing and comfort for them if that's the way it has to go.

Oh Ivan, he knows that, but thank you for
the kind words of faith.
It;s just that JPII is special to him,
having had an audience with him. Husband's
uncles are ALL priests and bishops.

One example is how he forgave the assassin who shot him while trying to kill him.

Any person reading the bible knows the injunction to forgive. Many christians do this and have been doing it for years. Why does it require the pope to do this? In what way does this further what the average christian already knows and does?
