Americans Lose $68 Billion to Illegals
Using a new approach, Columbia University economists David Weinstein and Donald Davis estimate the net economic losses from immigration to Americans.
Unlike earlier studies, this new model does not treat the movement of immigrant labor into the country simply as a result of abundant resources and demand for labor, assumptions more appropriate to the 19th century.
Rather, the model takes into account globalization, the technological superiority of the American economy, and the resulting high standard of living.
Among the reports findings:
In 2002, the net loss to U.S. natives from immigration was $68 billion.
This $68 billion annual loss represents a $14 billion increase just since 1998. As the size of the immigrant population has continued to increase, so has the loss.
The decline in wages is relative to the price of goods and services, so the study takes into account any change in consumer prices brought about by immigration.
The negative effect comes from increases in the supply of labor, and not the legal (or illegal) status of immigrants.
While natives lose from immigration, the findings show that immigrants themselves benefit substantially by coming to America.
Those who remain behind in their home countries also benefit from the migration of their countrymen. Donald R. Davis and David E. Weinstein are both professors of economics at Columbia University, as well as Research Associates at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).
SOIALs (former FROBLs) tell us tough enforcement measures are too expensive; can't be done; the courts will throw it out or will not convict; or the American people will never stand for it.
SOIALs (former FROBLs) "racebait" at every opportunity, especially attacking those of us who insist that ALL immigration policies be structured to ensure the protection and preservation of American culture, traditions, customs, and the english language.
So far, this has been a remarkably SOIAL-free thread. Lets hope it lasts...
With 68 billion you could effectively seal the borders.
No if ands or buts.
I do too. It's perfect.
have the borders & ports been secured?
have the 20 million illegals been deported?
have the employers who hire illegals been fined?
have the immigration laws been enforced?
let me know when they are...
Otherwise the only "Fantasyland" is the one in your mirror! ROFLMAO
Can't hurt to know exactly who your debating opponent is;)
Your tactics are tiresome, Miss Kelly.
Lol...
Wait..How about just plain "SOIL"? (Soft-On-Illegals-Lobby)...
As in SOILing up Free Republic?
have the 20 million illegals been deported?
have the employers who hire illegals been fined?
have the immigration laws been enforced?
let me know when they are...
Otherwise the only 'Fantasyland' is the one in your mirror!
ROFLMAO"
Roger on that ROFL, kelly.
Somebody's been juicin' a bit early.
Jingoism and BS...Good plan. It's reflected in your election successes.
It is a supply and demand thing. If the demand for labor remains constant but you increase the supply by adding lots of illegals then the price (wage) falls. The people who are hurt worst by illegal immigration are our citizens who are at the bottom of the economic ladder and have to compete with them for jobs. These are usually blacks, Hispanic-Americans and recent legal immigrants of all colors, races and creeds.
Dry wall hangers in Los Angelos used to make $18 per hour. Now illegals do this work for $8 hour. If a citizen wants to work at drywall hanging the excess labor of illegals is costing him $10 hour over what he used to earn and would earn again if the illegals were deported. The cost of housing has not fallen so this savings is not being passed onto consumers. It is being pocketed by the businesses that hire the illegals.

Sure beats your plan -- Globalism and Surrender.

Re your post:
Fair enough re: item 1--we're talking about two different populations: illegal ag workers, and illegal non-ag workers. The latter being much, much more likely to commit a crime. But maybe you're right and we should look at the illegal pop as a whole.
re 2 & 3--I'm not encouraging massive illegal immigration, I'm stating that if America does not keep up in the population race we are going to lose are number one super-power status to China or India.
By 2040 w/o stepped up immigration (and not taking into account illegal immigration)
-SS will go broke, because not enough people working to pay for the retired.
-Millions of Jobs will go unfilled because of lack of workers.
-China will overtake the US as the number one super-power because of #1 & #2.
Sure "America needs more people. People are power" look at Sub-Saharan Africa, it has more than twice the population of the US and its simply bursting with power and wealth.... oh it isnt is it?
Look at China and India--they are the proper comparisons to make. Look at how China has come up from a third-world backwater to $160+ Billion trade surplus with the U.S.
Why? Because they have 1.3 Billion people.
Source?
Thanks for pointing out you are a liar, as well.
The purge was deserved, sorry you were missed.
White guilt is the most pathetic excuse for every liberal failed idea. White people who feel guilty about anything should just go in the coqrner and shut up. Their guilt leads to people becoming unmotivated and lazy and believing eneverything is an entitlement.
Gor forbid we promote motivation to lazy people who rather sit on their lazy fat bottom than do something.
