Roughly one in ten consumers of alcohol will develop alcoholism. No alcoholic can ever learn controlled drinking. Everyone who chooses to drink should at least be aware of the potential nightmare of this socially accepted drug.

And 17 or 18, should have their own fake id by then.

Yes, 17 & 18 is a good time to start criminal behavior.

"17-18 it's far less clear."

Any adult who buys alcohol for children under legal drinking age (no matter how close to 'legal' those kids are), has broken the law and needs to experience the consequences.

If some 'mom' or 'dad' want to let their kid drink alcohol in their own home before the legal age, that is one thing. Giving alcohol to other people's kids without their express permission is morally wrong.

hmm well with beer it is easier to pace your self. The biggest danger involved with liqueur is shots. But i think i might put beer as a tad more dangerous.

Beer's biggest danger is that it's easy/fun to play drinking games! Everyone likes drinking games. It's also easy to chug beer. (try chugging vodka from a bottle ;) ) do a keg stand (yes i know there are "jack" stands I've done one it sucked, keg stands are easier) and beerbongs.

Beer has a lot of ways to get a lot of it into you quickly.
Also when you look for your stats i think you'll be surprised most college deaths are from beer. Some in part because of the reasons i mentioned also in part because college students are poor :) they can't buy liqueur in the volume you can get beer.

"At least they were supervised"

By an 'adult' who has no problem with breaking the law, or with involving other parents' kids in illegal activity.

Not exactly the kind of 'supervision' I'd want my kids to have.

Back in my day the drinking age was 18, so drinking after the senior prom was legal.

For those over 18.

I agree. If I ever see my kid going even 1 mile over the speed limit, or not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign or jaywalking. It's straight to the police station to learn him a lesson. Parents that think they should be able to regulate their children's behavior in a responsible way in their own house is a sure sign of bad parenting.

Roughly one in ten consumers of alcohol will develop alcoholism.

May I ask where you got that statistic? I ask because I know many drinkers (in fact just about everybody I know drinks), and yet I know nobody whom I would call alcoholic. Also, that strikes me as a variable statistic, that is one which would be the rate in prevailing circumstances, altered circumstances producing altered rates.

Everyone who chooses to drink should at least be aware of the potential nightmare of this socially accepted drug.

True, and everybody who eats fat should be aware of coronary heart disease; those who drink coffee or coke should be aware of hyper-tension.

It is not minimising or ignoring the terrible and devastating effects of alcoholism to state clearly that reasonable consumption of alcohol is good for health, nor to state that moderate consumption is not (of itself) harmful.

This really troubles me to hear this.

Parents back in my day would only give us pot.

Man - kids these days are SO spoiled!

:-)

People chug liquor too, shot after shot after shot.

I said I was in highschool last year. I can name off the top of my head about maybe 3 people who I know were hospitalized because over Alcohol poisoning by liquor. I can't name anyone who was poisoned by drinking Beer.

1 shot of liquor equals 1 beer. So, the volume of liquor versus the volume of beer,

And because Teenagers have the mentality of drinking as much as possible- they can down a bottle of vodka.

Nice attempt at using sarcasm to build a strawman, but you obviously did not read the rest of my post you quoted from. Might want to try reading a whole post before responding next time.

Right, it is. Since 17 and 18 year olds can be charged as an ADULT for drinking underage.

So since they can be charged as an adult they should do the crime?

Oh well, let them do pot so they can be charged as an adult too. We all know that kids today are too damn stupid to actually control themselves and act like adults. We all need pot and we all need to get drunk or else you are just a nerd. Gotta be cool, all the kids I know are cool, drunk, and stoned.

no your right it seems that way :)

I'm involved with the fraternity world. I get tons of this stuff regarding drinking and dangers and all that jazz. Most of the stuff that comes through is directly related to beer.

Good Lord!

What has gotten into people these days?

The woman bought some beer on the way home and shared it with her daughter (whose age we dont know yet).

So shoot the poor girl why dont we?

This is stupid.

A parent should have the right to allow their own children to drink alchohol if they want and the state and a bunch of self-righteous know-it-damn-alls should go pound sand.

In my personal opinion, if you are old enough to die for your country, you are old enough to drink alcohol in it.

Would you feel different if the parent was a guy buying alcohol for 17 year-old girls with the possible intent of sleeping with one of them.

Why do I need to defend what I say?

In order to be taken seriously. Believe me, you won't be.
