Churchill admits he is not an indian (Corrected as a False Quote Later)

Churchill did address the issue of his ethnicity, admitting that he is not Native American.

"Is he an Indian? Do we really care?" he said, quoting those he called his "white Republican" critics.

"Let's cut to the chase; I am not," he said.

His pedigree is "not important," Churchill said: "The issue is the substance of what is said."

***********

Churchill misquoted in article on UH speech

The Honolulu Star-Bulletin, incorrectly quoted University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill as admitting that he was not American Indian.

The story about Churchill's Tuesday night speech at the University of Hawaii-Manoa said the professor noted that his "white Republican" critics were asking, "Is he an Indian? Do we really care?"

"Let's cut to the chase, I'm not," the quote in yesterday's paper continued.

But a review of video and audio tapes of the speech shows that Churchill actually said: "Is he an Indian?

"We really care. We're trying to protect the rights of Indians to divine for themselves, say, this circle of flies in the form of white reporters circling a manure pile like it's of all consequential importance. "Cut to the chase on that."

Churchill went on to say that he is an associate member of the Keetoowah tribe and that associates are enrolled in the band after their genealogy has been vetted by the enrollment office. He said that he is less than one-quarter Indian, so he does not qualify to be a full member.

The issue of whether Churchill has Indian blood is part of the national debate over the controversial professor who gained notoriety for comparing some Sept. 11, 2001, victims to Nazis.

Tenured eh?

Perhaps if he can't keep track of his creed, perhaps he isn't worthy of tenured status?

That in and of itself is BS, the chief of the tribe conferred the same associate membership on B J Clinton which was later dishonored by the tribe. The chief who issued it got into some trouble, and those memberships were all canceled. That fact has been prominent in several stories about his ethnicity. Seem like old Ward just outed himself as a fake.

[His pedigree is "not important," Churchill said: "The issue is the substance of what is said."]

This reminds me of an incident in Northern Wisconsin during the mid 90's. There is an Ojibwa cemetery in the town of LaPointe and tourists sometimes walked through it and took pictures. One day, a whole bunch of "Native Americans" showed up with the national press (including CNN) in tow and demonstrated against the desecration of their land by greedy white people and demanded that the area be made off limits to the public.

I asked some of the local Ojibwa Indians, who were friends of mine, what was the motivation behind this and they all said they didn't know and that they didn't even know who the "Native Americans" were who were there protesting. Their best guess was they were a bunch of national activists who were bused in for the day for the sole purpose of making national news.

A short time later, the cemetery was fenced off by the state of Wisconsin. Now when I go to look in through the fence, there is vegetation taking over the tombstones and the wooden structures causing a much faster rate of disintegration.

If your Grandparent was 1/4
Your parent= 1/8
You would be 1/16
Your child = 1/32 (I think that's the limit for recognition, but you have to have the Tribal verification.)

You are of a minority specially favored by the federal government. You have priority over blacks and Hispanics at the trough. You should find it very easy to sell goods and services to the government.

LOL!

I just read of where the Army went back 100 years to make nice with an African-American soldier who received a courts-martial for drinking and fighting with enlisted men!

He supplied his troops with booze, drank with them, and then beat the crap out of a Sgt. As a Captain! The Articles of War strictly forbid all of this behavoir and he was tossed from the service. Basically, that is the equivalent of getting a DD for an Enlisted man. The Army now said he was the victim of racism and awarded him an Honorable. No matter that he violated A of W, which is NOT DISPUTED, he was discriminated against. No wonder today's Army is in the sh*t locker.

March on revisionists.

I just remembered where I had seen Ward before and he is an indian. It was on TV years ago and as I recall the name of his tribe was the Acowees. As I remember they had a rather good working relationship with the local military, I believe it was F-Troop.

We're trying to protect the rights of Indians to divine for themselves

Interesting that he chose the word 'divine' as opposed to 'define' By any reasonable 'definition' Churchill is a pale face. But if we can all 'divine' what we are, he can claim to be an Indian as much as Tanto...so can John Wayne for that matter.
