Terri Schiavo's Family Begins 24 Hour Vigil, Governor Bush Trying to Help
Life News.Com ^ | February 23, 2005 | Steven Ertelt

Clearwater, FL (LifeNews.com) -- With time and legal options running out, the parents of Terri Schiavo have started a 24 hour prayer vigil outside the Florida hospice where she lives. Bob and Mary Schindler and Terri's bother and sister have been joined by dozens of pro-life advocates at the Woodside Hospice in St. Petersburg, where Terri lives.

Meanwhile, a pro-life activist asked by the Schindlers to help their cause is appealing to the Florida legislature to give them a hand.

Randall Terry is hoping Florida Governor Jeb Bush will ask the state legislature to convene in a special session to pass legislation that would help Terri and other disabled patients like her.

A pro-life lawmaker has filed a bill that would require doctors and the courts to presume that an incapacitated patient would not want to have food and water denied to them if they have not previously issued an advance directive saying otherwise.

Rep. Dennis Baxley, a Republican from Ocala, is the sponsor of the bill. However, he said his bill would need some fine tuning before being considered.

"It may need some more wordsmithing," he told the Tallahassee Democrat. "I feel like we're at a juncture where all of the legal options need to be looked at."

In a press conference, Bush said he was exploring every legal possibility to again prevent Terri from being starved to death. He called the effort a "work in progress."

"I can assure you, I will do whatever I can within the means, within the laws, of our state to protect this woman's life," Bush said Wednesday. "I won't go beyond that."

The governor said he has received thousands of calls and emails from supporters of Terri and that he and his staff are working with attorneys at the legislature to devise a solution.

"People with deep faith and big hearts are concerned, as I am about the circumstance that Ms. Schiavo is in," the governor continued. "I want them to know I will do what I can, but there are limits to what any particular person -- irrespective of the title they currently hold -- can do."

Terry and some pro-life advocates picketed the home of Terri's estranged husband Michael Wednesday morning. He told the Associated Press he had a brief conversation with Michael as police watched.

"I just spoke with him very briefly and asked him to please let Terri live, give her back to mom and dad," Terry said. "He said, 'Mr. Terry, I don't want to talk to you. I don't want you on my property. Good day."'

Actually the first case of child abuse had to be argued under an animal cruelty law. At the time no such law existed for children. I did a paper on it in college but don't remember all thye details. Any lawyers out there know?

How a court can decree a death sentence upon a disabled innocent person is beyond me.

A great idea, as long as the dog is actually getting fed, as you imply in your post!

Why doesn't the legislature impeach and remove this Judge Greer? For the same reason they didn't the Kangaroo 7 in 2000?

In a frank and candid Email to the governor, sent the other day, I suggested the same course of action.

Now I'm having second thoughts about how "frank and candid" I was.
I kind of let him have it!

Or: Terri Schiavo, if you want to die, raise your hand.

I couldn't say. But according to the STATUTES, and the laws governing the DCF, its legal.

It could be done - and it would be very difficult. A water-only fast with minimal water would be very effective; but it mst be done in front of the world so they can see the suffering that such a fast entails.

Would that God speak to their hearts and steel them so they may fast and be the face of Terri Schiavo!

I pray that I will be able to come...

Are we being called to do so? This idea has been out there for a long time, yet none have done it to the extreme...

If God leads, are we willing to follow?

Michael Shiavo FAILED to appear at at LEAST TWO depositions, COURT ORDERED DEPOSITIONS, that were to be held to determine his fitness to be Terri's guardian considering his demand that Terri receive NO THERAPY, NO JOYFUL INTERACTION with others outside her room, NO OUTINGS into the sunshine, NO CHEERFUL DECORATIONS in her room, NO PHYSICAL CONTACT that might reflect therapy movement, no measures to save her life should she contact, say, pneumonia, etc., and at times...NO VISITS BY HER PARENTS as a means of punishing Terri.

Various nurses who have tended to Terri have given legal affidavits saying that Michael Shiavo has asked such horrors of them as 'Is the BITCH DEAD YET?' and that shiavo may have injected Terri with insulin (vials found in her trash can after one of his visits) to shock her into death. So much is out there on legal documents...from Terri's horrific broken bones (back, femur, etc) that were ignored by the JUDGE at the beginning, to the fact that her husband STOPPED ALL THERAPY just after getting over a MILLION DOLLARS that he promised the jury he would use to rehabilitate Terri.

Shiavo is a SICK MAN.

Sociopathic, imho.

And his concubine, with whom he has father TWO CHILDREN, must be a genuinely vile person. Who would live with a freak who would cause another human being to suffer the way shiavo has?

Mike Shiavo is a weak, puny, vindictive man, with much to fear, who has managed to make money off of Terri, relished mocking and hurting her parents, enjoyed starving both of his own parents (called it a peaceful, I believe, even pleasant experience on Larry King live).

He is a monster.

And Felos, the little girlie man who directs the drive to kill Terri, is not unlike a vampire, in his zest to see Terri killed. He seems to almost pant at the thought when you watch him on TV. This freak has stated he communes with those who cannot speak for themselves. He is psychic, don't cha know.

A loon with a zest for publicity, and a fear that all will discover what he is before he can make big bucks on a book and movie about how he managed to kill Terri.

It is a notion I and others may have had during a private, thoughtful moment. Was it inspired by GOD? I have no idea.

But if a person or persons decide they want to do it, they had better be very confident they can.

To be honest, it's not necessarily something I think I can do. But there may be those who are willing and able.

Excuse me, but can't Michael Schaivo simply divorce Terri and then get on with his life?

This afternoon, when I heard the ABC radio announcer say the "Terri Schaivo Right-to-Die Case" I just screamed at the radio. I can't believe people are calling this a right-to-die case. Rather, it's a right-to-live case.

God bless Terry!
