Corzine, Lautenberg to introduce bill banning assault pistol use

WASHINGTON - New Jersey's U.S. senators plan to introduce a bill that would make it illegal for anyone, except a police officer or military official, to purchase or use an assault pistol that fires bullets capable of penetrating a bulletproof vest.
The Five-SeveN gun made by FN Herstal of Belgium has already been denounced by three national police organizations and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The handgun is small and lightweight and easily concealed in a person's pocket, the groups said.
Last month, the Brady Campaign released a videotape of its staff test-firing one of the handguns it had purchased from a Virginia gun dealer. The bullets penetrated a police Kevlar vest.
Democratic Sens. Jon Corzine and Frank Lautenberg said the guns are a menace to society.
"There is absolutely no reason anyone other than law enforcement and the military should possess firepower capable of piercing protective body armor," Lautenberg said.
The two senators plan to introduce the Protect Law Enforcement Armor (PLEA) Act next week. The bill would ban the sale, purchase and use of the handgun and its ammunition by anyone other than a police officer or military official. The bill would also prohibit the gun and bullets from being made in the United States.
Police officials from the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Brotherhood of Police Officers say every police officer in the country needs to familiarize themselves with the weapon because it poses a great risk to the public.
The U.S. office of FN Herstal in McLean, Va., did not respond Tuesday to an e-mail message seeking comment.
BTW - This bans all carbines (at least in Michigan) since they are considered pistols which shoot rifle ammo.

Actually, this bill was only truly introduced by Corzine, who, ironically, hails from a Red County in downstate Illinois. I say this because Frank Lautenberg actually died about 10 years ago. What you see is an animatronic corpse.
Then you better ban knives, ice picks, et al. as they can ALL PENETRATE BULLETPROOF VESTS
Unless, of course, Frankie-boy, that one were protecting the life of an innocent (including oneself) from a deadly attack by someone wearing body armor. Duh.

I think in Maine armor-piercing bullets that can be fired from a pistol are banned. It's a confusing law, though.
There might be federal laws against certain armor-piercing ammo - except 30-06 black-tip.

This nonesense comes from Lautenberg and Corzine - the two senators from New Jersey. NJ is not only the most corrupt state in the Union but the people there elected a Queen (McGreasey) to be its governor.
FN has already pulled distribution of the "vest-piercing" hollow-point round. All that remains is a lighter round that the ATF has already ruled as non-armor piercing. The ATF says the current ammo isn't armor piercing, so the NJ Rats should STFU.

If penetration of a bulletproof vest is the definition of what makes an banned firearm, expect to see the bulletproof vests used in the testing procedure to get more and more flimsy and less resistant.
Just about any gun is capable of firing a bullet that can penetrate a bulletproof vest. The key is in the design of the bullet, not the gun. As for the gun in this instance, it is a small calaber high speed bullet, that would probably just piss the cop off rather than actually hurting him.
