WASHINGTON, Feb. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- The foreign-born population in the United States numbered 34.2 million in 2004, accounting for 12 percent of the country's total population, figures released by the Census Bureau on Tuesday showed.
The number of foreign-born population was 2.3 percent higher than that in 2003.
Of the foreign-born population, 53 percent were born in Latin America, 25 percent in Asia, 14 percent in Europe and the remaining 8 percent in other regions of the world, such as Africa and Oceania.
Second-generation Americans, which are natives with one or both parents born in a foreign country, numbered 30.4 million in 2004, accounting for 11 percent of the total US population, according to the Census Bureau, which conducted the survey of 62,500 households in March 2004.
About 6 million immigrants arrived in the United States since 2000, 59 percent of them from Latin America and 23 percent from Asia. These immigrants are more educated than those who came in the late 1990s, according to Census Bureau data.
Excuse me, but is the comma in the right place in that tax figure?!
It is.
Not to be arugmentative, but why? Why is it unnacceptable, and if so, what number would be accaptable. And....why would that number be acceptable?
THAT needs to be pruned DOWN a little HELLUVA LOT, methinks.
There; that's better.
This is ethic cleansing of whites from America.
As it's already been pointed out, these numbers are lower than they were at the turn of the last century. This is much hullabaloo over nothing.
International driver's licesnes are available.
"International driver's licesnes are available."
This business of immigrant driver's licenses seems a little odd to me, and an illustration of how times have changed. I couldn't drive when I came here in 1969.
Working class English boys typically didn't learn to drive in those days unless it was part of their vocational training, usually on the job.
Today, even immigrants from third world hellholes drive and insist on their right to do so.
Depends a lot on the state. You don't need to know how to drive in New York. You can get by fine without a car, and many New Yorkers do get by without cars. You can't say the same thing about DFW. Screw the privilage crap, you NEED a car here, and there is no way around it.
For the most part, their views are not the same as Wille's.
Too many immigrants for our country to reasonably absorb. And the illegal aliens problem is way out of control. Both legal immigration and the presence of illegal aliens need to be severely curtailed. Now.
And has been already pointed out a million times, we didn't have the welfare state at the turn of the century. People didn't see their property taxes go sky high every year to educate children here illegally, they didn't see insurance rates and hospital rates sky rocket out of control, etc..
Legal immigrants had sponsers. No one was forced to subsidze anyone.
Mexico needs to be annexed by the USA, for the children of course.
Might as well be. Mexico's already trying to annex us.
Anyways, I thought the Immigration rate was only a half million allowed into the country per year or so? To blame legal immigration is to blame law abiding people.
Blame illegals. And actually start enforcing our laws on immigration.
Perhaps turnabout is fair play. After all, large chunks of the United States once belonged to Mexico.
An international lic. and a MAJOR credit card.
Amen, blame illegals.
For a total of 25 years. That's all. They were paid for what we got.
"Screw the privilage crap,"
Did I say something that you construe as "privilage crap"? Explain please. The necessity for a car is no greater today than it was in 1969. I was there, I should know.
