WASHINGTON, Feb. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- The foreign-born population in the United States numbered 34.2 million in 2004, accounting for 12 percent of the country's total population, figures released by the Census Bureau on Tuesday showed.
The number of foreign-born population was 2.3 percent higher than that in 2003.
Of the foreign-born population, 53 percent were born in Latin America, 25 percent in Asia, 14 percent in Europe and the remaining 8 percent in other regions of the world, such as Africa and Oceania.
Second-generation Americans, which are natives with one or both parents born in a foreign country, numbered 30.4 million in 2004, accounting for 11 percent of the total US population, according to the Census Bureau, which conducted the survey of 62,500 households in March 2004.
About 6 million immigrants arrived in the United States since 2000, 59 percent of them from Latin America and 23 percent from Asia. These immigrants are more educated than those who came in the late 1990s, according to Census Bureau data.

Well over ten percent of the population.
That is unacceptable.

Instead of being blatant racists ... what if someone whispered in your ear that their views were IDENTICAL to your political views? Then you'd-be dancing in the streets! Instead you broad brush by race and assume the worst and have the audacity to call yourselves "conservatives".
You, Willie Green, are the worst. Aways bad mouthing capitalism. What you are thinking about these folks is what you advocate - government dependence, more unions etc.. If anything it is the new immigrant that actually wants to WORK for what they have and not cling to some dead, parasitic regime.

NumbersUSA.com's goal of reducing annual legal and illegal immigration to more traditional numerical levels enjoys broad based public support.
Virtually every major poll that has been conducted in the past decade finds that a majority of Americans support lower immigration numbers. As many of the following polls suggest, what we are for is the same thing a majority of Americans are for.

If anything it is the new immigrant that actually wants to WORK for what they have and not cling to some dead, parasitic regime. If their views were identical to mine, then they'd WORK to evict the parasitic political regimes in their own countries, just like I'm doing.
You, Willie Green, are the worst. Aways bad mouthing capitalism.
Well coming from you, that's quite a compliment, indeed.
The truth is, I am a capitalist, with a small "c".
That shouldn't be confused with my opposition of transnational corporatism. Corporatists are not capitalists. They do not actually assume market risk as a true capitalist would. Instead, they corruptly utilize their influence to manipulate government policies to minimize risk, often to the detriment of the American People.
But there's no need to explain this to you. You've long been engaged in hijacking and terrorizing intelligent discussion of these issues with your superficial accusations of "racism". But thanks for reminding everybody, once again, what patheticly hateful tactics you'll resort to.

The foreign-born population in the United States numbered 34.2 million in 2004, accounting for 12 percent of the country's total population, figures released by the Census Bureau on Tuesday showed. High by historical figures, but not as high as the 14.7 percent in 1910 with the great immigration surge of the turn of the century. Back then the Irish bashing had given way to Italian and Polish bashing. That generation of immigrants only lived through the depression and gave birth to "the greatest generation."
To: nmh
Obviously your opinion is out of touch with the majority of Americans in poll after poll. Take your attack comments (racism) where they belong...in the trash.
A government report came out in which it stated that it takes immigrants approximately 100 years to assimilate into the population (Americanize). When America absorbs immigrants at record rates without the chance to Americanize, then we have lost America and its values. IMHO, America will have a revolution on it's hands and that is what one is sensing now. Are not Conservatives fighting for American values?
How many will suffer in the world after we lose our identity?

High by historical figures, but not as high as the 14.7 percent in 1910 with the great immigration surge of the turn of the century. Back then the Irish bashing had given way to Italian and Polish bashing. Yes, 12% isn't as high as the 14.7% of 1910, but isn't it amazing how the 14.7% were able to assimilate without mandating bi-lingual schools, bi-ligual government publications and translators in courts and hospitals?
However, the most important past is that the 14.7% percent entered this country LEGALY and didn't become a parasitic drain on our economy and infrastructure and denigrate our communities with multi family occupation of single family homes, instant barrios and butt ass ugly murals on every available wall on commercial buildings.

These immigrants are more educated than those who came in the late 1990s, according to Census Bureau data. More educated? That can only come from the dramatic increase of illegal aliens from China (and why aren't those people considered refugees from a despotic regime, anyway?).
From The Costs of Illegal Immigration:
- With nearly two-third of illegals lacking a high school diploma, the primary reason they create a fiscal deficit is their low education levels and resulting low incomes and tax payments not their legal status or their unwillingness to work.
- The fact that legal immigrants with little schooling are a fiscal drain on federal coffers does not mean that legal immigrants overall are a drain. Many legal immigrants are highly skilled.
- If illegal aliens were legalized and began to pay taxes and use services like legal immigrants with the same education levels, the estimated annual fiscal deficit at the federal level would increase from $2,700 per household to nearly $7,700, for a total federal deficit of $29 billion (nearly three times the current level).
CIS insured this report from last August is well linked and documented.

14.7% is paltry considering this Califoreignia news:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1328890/posts
"-The share of foreign-born in the state's population grew from 15 percent to 27 percent in the last 25 years, but will only grow to almost 30 percent - 29.8 percent - by 2030.
-The second generation grew from 12 percent of the state population in 1980 to 17 percent currently and will be almost 21 percent in 2030.
-The second generation is expected to account for the majority of growth in the state's work force by 2030. In the last 25 years, new immigrants made up about two-thirds of the work-force growth, but in the next 25 years they will provide only one-third of the growth. Instead, the second generation will constitute 59 percent of the growth."
