2005 ASSEMBLY JOINT RESOLUTION 15

Relating to: condemning the anti-American hate speech promoted by Professor Ward L. Churchill.

Whereas, the United States of America was attacked on September 11, 2001, a day that will be remembered as one of the darkest in American history; and

Whereas, the terrorists that attacked America that day murdered more than 3,000 innocent people who were doing nothing more than enjoying the inalienable rights of a free people; and

Whereas, the families of those who were lost on September 11, 2001, are still in the agonizing process of grieving and recovery, enduring immeasurable pain from the attacks; and

Whereas, the citizens of Wisconsin rallied around those families and our country in the following mobilization of national resources to achieve victory in the War on Terror; and

Whereas, Professor Ward L. Churchill of the University of Colorado at Boulder wrote an essay, “‘Some People Push Back’: On the Justice of Roosting Chickens,” related to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, with intentionally inflammatory and offensive statements aimed at all Americans; and

Whereas, Professor Churchill in his essay compares the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, to Adolph Eichmann, the man in charge of Hitler’s plan to murder Jews during World War II; and

Whereas, on January 31, 2005, Professor Churchill issued a statement clarifying that people working in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, were the “technocrats of empire” and were the equivalents of “little Eichmanns”; and Whereas, Professor Churchill is scheduled to give a speech on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on March 1, 2005; and

Whereas, Professor Churchill’s essay and statements are clearly inflammatory, offensive, and lacking in academic foundation, rightly outraging citizens both in Wisconsin and across the country; and

Whereas, Professor Churchill’s tenure is currently the subject of review by the University of Colorado Board of Regents and is the subject of a statement by the governor of Colorado calling for his dismissal; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature condemns the anti-American hate speech promoted by Professor Ward L. Churchill; recommends strongly that the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater cancel Professor Churchill’s speech on March 1, 2005; and requests the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents to conduct a review of hiring and tenure procedures to determine if appropriate policies exist to prevent the hiring of and, if necessary, the timely dismissal of faculty failing to meet honorable academic standards of conduct expected by students, parents, and taxpayers; and, be it further

Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to the governor of Colorado, the president of the University of Wisconsin System, and the chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

February 17, 2005; Introduced by Representatives NASS, KREIBICH, ZEPNICK, OWENS, LEMAHIEU, GUNDERSON, MONTGOMERY, LOTHIAN, VOS, SUDER, KLEEFISCH, STRACHOTA, PRIDEMORE, KERKMAN, VAN ROY, MCCORMICK, VUKMIR, MEYER, J. FITZGERALD, HAHN and STONE, cosponsored by Senators GROTHMAN, HARSDORF, BROWN, LEIBHAM, KEDZIE, LAZICH and KAPANKE. Referred to Committee on Rules.

Now only if they would send a resolution to Congress urging withdrawal from the UN or urging Congress to keep us out of the FTAA, instead of wasting time with this flea, Churchill.

Big deal. They should have run him out town on a rail. Freedom of speech doesn't include fighting words. And his words will leed to violence.

"Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature condemns the anti-American hate speech promoted by Professor Ward L. Churchill; recommends strongly that the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater cancel Professor Churchill’s speech on March 1, 2005;..."

That's all I wanted to see.

"...and requests the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents to conduct a review of hiring and tenure procedures to determine if appropriate policies exist to prevent the hiring of and, if necessary, the timely dismissal of faculty failing to meet honorable academic standards of conduct expected by students, parents, and taxpayers;..."

And *that's* just sauce for the goose.
Amend the word "requests" to "mandates' & we'll be batting 1.000.
Not an easy thing to do in this Liberal-Socialist state of confusion y'know, but I do see my people -- Pat Strachota & Glenn Grothman (both R-West Bend) -- are in the thick of this.

OBTW off topic but Milwakee-related: KnI took a 3-day holiday last weekend & stayed at the Wyndham Suites in downtown Milwaukee.
Had a 10th floor suite overlooking the corners of Water Street & Kilbourn Avenue with a spectacular view of the PAC, City Hall, MSOE & some monstrous copper-colored building as well as an *ice rink* where -- apparently -- a *lot* of people go to skate (by a "Starbuck's") judging by the large numbers of people we saw using it.

Ate at a couple of the city's best places, too.
One of which was exceptional, and I highly recommend you take momma there for a dinner, Mr.G.
Place is called "Butch's Clock Steakhouse" & it's well worth the drive from Greenfield into town to visit. Just great all-way-around & for being in the heart of the city very reasonably priced for the quality of their food *&* service.
Don't delay, go today!.

Although as hard as we tried we couldn't find an art gallery -- of any kind -- which might have that *special* painting we're seeking for over our fireplace mantle (you saw).
So WTF happened to businesses in downtown Milwaukee businesses, anyway?
Oh well if it was excess taxation then that'd explain why Milwaukee's in such a fiscal bind, huh.
We're heading to the Americana Resort in Kohler for a week's stay next, in March.
I'm sure *they'll* take out money. ;^)

The "low point" of the visit was my picking up some gawd-awful local paper called "The Shepard".
This Liberal-Socialist *rag* was so vile -- albeit available most everywhere we went -- I could hardly believe the crap I read in it.
No wonder the POS's *free*.
Well it's not like K didn't warn me when she saw me reach for a copy outside the Pabst Theater. :o)

So.
*That* rag's what passes for "culture" these days on the Milwaukee scene, huh.

...brother.
