Muslims Wake Up - Response to Freedom House Investigation
Free Muslims Against Terrorism ^ | 2-20-05 | FMAT

Posted on 02/21/2005 2:09:20 PM PST by Bob J

Muslim-bashing. That's the accusation many of my fellow Muslims now hurl at the various news outlets for their news stories about a Freedom House investigation that found extremist Islamic literature in some leading American mosques. This name-calling is unfortunate.

Since 1980, the Muslim world has experienced an enormous growth of religious fanaticism and extremism the likes of which Islam has not experienced in its 1,400 years. This movement continues to grow because of the spread of Wahhabi Islam; a sect that used to number no more than one percent of all Muslims, but because of money and technology, has spread to more areas around the world.

Extremism is also growing because of an ideology called political Islam. The basis of political Islam is the rejection of secularism and the belief that the mosque and the state should be completely intertwined. Unfortunately, history has shown that when politics and religion are completely intertwined, disaster results.

Most importantly, extremism in the Muslim world continues to grow because most Muslims are unwilling to admit that we have a problem with extremism and support for terrorism. The response by Muslims to the Freedom House report is not the first time that the Muslim community resorted to denial and accusations of Muslim-bashing when presented with evidence of Muslim culpability.

After September 11, many in the Muslim world chose denial and hallucination rather than face up to the sad fact that Muslims perpetrated the 9/11 terrorist acts. After 9/11, many Muslims, including religious leaders and "intellectuals," blamed 9/11 on a Jewish conspiracy, and went as far as fabricating a tale that 4,000 Jews did not show up for work in the World Trade Center on that day.

Since 9/11, the world has watched in horror as hundreds of schoolchildren were murdered in Russia by Chechen Muslim terrorists. Scores of civilians were murdered by Islamic terrorists in Spanish train bombings. Many others have been murdered in suicide bombings in buses, restaurants and other public places, human beings have been beheaded, two Russian passenger planes were blown out of the sky, and many, many atrocities that are too long to mention. All carried out by Muslims.

With all the evidence that Islam is facing a crisis, one wonders what it will take for Muslims to realize that those who commit mass murder in the name of Islam are not just a few fringe elements. What will it take for Muslims to realize that we are facing a crisis potentially more deadly than the AIDS epidemic? What will it take for Muslims to realize that there is a large, evil movement that is turning what was a peaceful religion into a death cult?

Will Muslims wake up before it is too late? Or will we continue blaming an imaginary Jewish conspiracy and entities like The Dallas Morning News for all our problems? The blaming of all Muslim problems on others is a cancer that is destroying Muslim society. And it must stop.

Muslims must wake up, look inward and put a stop to many of our religious leaders who spend most of their sermons teaching hatred, intolerance and violent jihad. We should not be afraid to admit that as Muslims we have a problem with violent extremism. We should not be afraid to admit that so many of our religious leaders belong behind bars, and not behind a pulpit.

Only moderate Muslims can challenge and defeat extremist Muslims. We can no longer afford to be silent. If we remain silent to the extremism within our community, then we should not expect anyone to listen to us when we complain of stereotyping and discrimination by non-Muslims. We should not be surprised when the world treats all of us as terrorists. And we should not be surprised when we are profiled at airports.

Simply put, not only do Muslims need to join the war against extremism and terror, we need to take the lead in this war.

Words cannot begin to express how I feel about these heroes. They are heroes in the magnificent Crusader tradition. They are heroes in the magnificent sense of anti communist fighters around the world.

Excellent article. It would be good if more Muslims would take this public stand. As it is, the silence of so many is construed as pasive acceptance of the terrorists in their midst.

Not knowing who your enemy is a sure sign of a pending catastrophe.

The islamic thing is beyond a dozen guys you know...if you ask victims of Muslims, they will tell you in no uncertain terms: do not believe a word muslims say. That's good advice for you too.

another familiar refrain from the apologists for Islam: compare parts of the bad ole Bible, and make sure folks engage in some nifty moral equivalence.

Islam was spread at the point of the sword. Are you aware of any Muslim scripture that "changed the game," or is the ideology still the same?

When I see hundreds of thousands of Muslims marching in the streets against terrorism, I'll be willing to re-consider. But if you want me to be impressed that some towel-head wrote a press release, I'm sorry.

I will never, ever, ever forgive those barbarians for murdering 3,000+ of my countrymen.

You want to hop in the sack with them, that's fine. I want no part of those savages, not the first one.

Having an organization like FMAT is a good start. As stated before, many are afraid for themselves and family.

Yep. A pity my enemy -- Islam -- has enlisted you. For all I know, you're one of them; I don't care either way.

But every Muslim is my enemy, and I consider every one of them a terrorist in waiting.

And you sound like a shill for C.A.I.R.

Muslims by definition are extremists...read their "holy book" and look up their origins and development.

Contain them, keep them divided, allow capitalism to flourish, proselytize, those are the policies that allow progress in that world.

I would think most Muslims do not subscribe to killing all the infidels.....just like there are terrible passages of hate and killing in the Old Testement, we don't follow those edicts any longer cause they are no longer relevant. I'm not trying to change your mind cause you are obviously a hater of ALL Muslims, but I hope most don't think like this.......

You apologists for Islam are so predictable. You're the second one in this thread who trotted out the "well, the Bible is bad, too" line.

The Old Testament isn't irrelevant. Jesus Christ superceded the old covenant. Maybe you could read it sometime.

And regardless, you don't see Jews strapping bombs to children and blowing up buses full of babies.

But keep on. Muslims need dhimis in this country. Keep pimping for the mudering savages.

What you will be seeing here are two differing opinions on how to deal with the long term issue of Islamic extremism.

One group believes we must find those Muslims who are appalled at what is being done in the name of their religion and assist them in becoming an effective voice in countering the rise of extremism, hate and death.

Others believe we should go to an all out war with a billion people, good bad or indifferent. Kill 'em all and let God sort them out kind of attitude. Of course, none of these people are wearing a uniform or will be in a position to be put on the front lines of this "global war". I'd say a pretty safe position from which to "let loose the dogs of war" rhetoric.

You need to decide which is the saner strategy. Don't be afraid to chime in.

BTW - One side will will use the sophomoric strategy of labeling their opponents as shills for Islamic Terrorism. That's usually a sign their argument is weak and will not prevail without mudslinging and character assassination.

Out of curiosity, how many years did you wear the uniform? I served my country for six years, four as an officer.

After 9/11, I tried to re-enlist. I was too old. I tried to get a waiver and go in as a JAG lawyer. I was turned down.

So I resent your thinly-veiled suggestion of cowardice on my part.

If I could go back in as a buck private, I would. But I'll be 39 next month.

But back to my question: How long did you serve in the military?

I never apologized for "Islam" did I??? and where did I say the bible is bad...I've read the entire bible 20 times or more since I was 12. I only said there were passages in it that called for abhorrent things.....not the whole bible. Go tell any of our bible scholars that the Old Testament is irrelevant......it certainly is not....and you mentioned Jews later on.....well you must hate them too, cause all they follow is the Torah, or the Old Testament which you say is irrelevant......wonder how our Jewish friends would feel about that..... calling me a dhimi and pimp don't add alot to the discussion except it is the same tactic a liberal uses when they can't think of anything else to say......
