Pope book riles Jews by comparing abortion to Holocaust

VATICAN CITY (AFP) - A new book by Pope John Paul (news - web sites) II to be published in Italy next Wednesday in which he likens abortion to a new Holocaust has outraged Jewish groups appalled by what they say is a lack of understanding on the part of the Catholic Church.

The comparison is highlighted in a passage of the 84-year-old pontiff's fifth book, "Memory and Identity", a volume of reflections on ideological conflicts of the 20th century released to Italian newspapers ahead of its publication here next Wednesday.

The president of the Central Council for Jews in Germany, Paul Spiegel, attacked the passage in which the pontiff links abortion to the mass extermination of six million Jews by Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime.

Alluding to a similar link made by German Cardinal Joachim Meisner in January, Spiegel said it was an unacceptable comparison".

It showed that "the Catholic Church does not understand or does not want to understand that there is an enormous difference between mass genocide and what women do with their bodies".

In the passage which has so offended Jewish groups, the pope begins by saying that "anti-Gospel is the new form of totalitarianism" and that this new totalitarianism is "insidiously hidden behind the appearance of democracy".

"It was a legally elected parliament which allowed the election of Hitler in Germany in the 30s. The same Reichstag gave Hitler the power which opened the way for the political invasion of Europe, the creation of concentration camps, the introcution of the so-called 'final solution' to the Jewish question which led to the extermination of millions of sons and daugthers of Israel."

The pope adds that, just as in the past, there is a need to question the legislation of parliaments which are the product of contemporary democracy.

"The most immediate association of ideas which comes to mind are the laws on abortion. Parliaments which create and promulgate such laws must be conscious that they are abusing their power and remain in open conflict with the law of God".

In January, Cologne Cardinal Joachim Meisner said in a sermon in the western German city's cathedral that "first there was Herod, who ordered the children of Bethlehem to be killed, then there was Hitler and Stalin among others, and today unborn children are being killed in their millions".

The pope's fifth book, published despite his recent ill health, reiterates the themes of his March 1995 encyclical Evangelium Vitae in which he condemns abortion, euthanasia and genetic manipulation.

It will be published by Italian company Rizzioli, publishers of the best-selling newspaper Corriere della Sera, next Wednesday. The Vatican (news - web sites) is to hold a press conference on the book's release on Tuesday.

Don't accept AFP's implied generalization about "Jews" being riled by this.
What they really have is a notorious left-dhimmi, the European counterpart to Abe Foxman, making a standard denial of a comparison that is obvious to many. Other Jews have also sold out to this position but that still does not justify attributing it to "the Jews."
To make a logically defensible generalization, the less observant they are, the more likely they are to support standard left-liberal positions.

Abortion is not what women do with their bodies.

No woman is born pregnant and a fetus is therefore not a part of "their" body.

Abortion is what women do to their children's bodies and is no different than what the Nazis did to the untermenchen's bodies.

These people are always whining and would have you believe that the death of 6 million jews in europe IS a much bigger deal than the extermination of 45 million helpless infants since 1972 in the US...many by jewish abortion doctors. Never seems to occur to them (the doctors) or their apologists that they are no differant than the adolph eichmanns of nazi germany except they receive a much larger pay check than eichmann did. Our abortion doctors...jew and non-jew alike,had they lived back in nazi germany, would have prospered nicely in the "holocaust" business.

Another holocaust related historical note that is NEVER mentioned by the mainstream media or the professional "hypers" of the jewish holocaust is the fact that more Christians were killed during the 20th century in soviet Russia by jewish bolshevik communists (atheists) for the most part than all throughout prior Christian history...somewhere around 100 million. Now there's a big number for you.

I presume this man doesn't represent Jews who actually read Torah and follow its rules for their lives. This man represents JINO kind of Jews who feel that liberalism=true judaism. What a schmuck!

As for the comment, "there is an enormous difference between mass genocide and what women do with their bodies" proves that he knows NOTHING of basic biology which tells us that an abortion has little to do with "what a woman does with her body" and everything to do with KILLING a baby, 40 million of them in the USA alone over the past 32 or so years. That IS A GENOCIDE.

There's another reason that the term holocaust is appropriate to use in regards to abortion. The word holocaust literal means "a sacrifice burned by fire". The Hebrew term for it is SHOAH, which means the same thing. Most abortion clinics will take aborted babies and after selling off what they can for "research" they burn the rest.

It's shameful that this so-called Jewish representative doesn't have a clue.

I am a Jew, and I admire the Pope for having the courage to state the obvious: the tens of millions of innocents killed by abortion are indeed comparable to the Holocaust. In some ways it is worse, because the murders of Jews outraged and disgusted the world and led to war crimes tribunals and laws. But even after 40 million babies dead, half the nation still embraces the killing of babies as a "right". When we have so abandoned our morality, is it any wonder than our "enlightened" Western culture is proving so soft at resisting the current Muslim onslaught?

So-called "Jews" who proclaim abortion rights are compatible with Judiasm are nothing but "JINO's", and my Christian brothers and sisters should disregard them entirely.
