HST, 11/2/04: "Kerry will win big today. I guarantee it. The evil Bush family of central Texas is about to suffer another humiliating failure on another disastrous election day."

I also enjoyed seeing Gray on stage once or twice. (The one about his eye problems.)

I enjoyed that too. Gray seemed much more of a tragic figure than Thompson though. Didn't he have a long-running cameo in The Nanny?

He was a great American, just because you disagree with some of his views doesn't make him any less of an American.

That's where you're wrong! The universe is bifurcated into a Liberal realm and a Conservative realm. I read it in an Ann Coulter column! Anyone who criticizes the Dear Leader (any Republican president) is, ipso facto, evil and un-American.

This is why I don't read Kafka or Joyce: I'm not sure if they were good Republicans. If they weren't, their work is subversive trash. An even bigger problem presents itself for authors like Sterne, Rabelais, and Voltaire: I have to determine if they would have been good Republicans before I'll read them. Yes, the counterfactuals can get dizzying, but it's the price we must pay to avoid contact with the Dark Side.

I know it's possible to survive a suicide-attempt with a firearm...the fact remains that blowing one's brains out FEELS like a damned sure bet.

Nope, I believe men who do this want to make a bloody mess in the house. At least, they could walk out into the yard before they shot themselves in the head.

Read it. It sucked.

Hemingway was a self-indulgent, pendantic, drunken old sod. I never liked his writing.

I suffered through an English Lit teacher who thought he was Gods gift to mankind. (Come to think of it, Hemningway thought that, too.) She made us read everything he wrote.

Worst class I ever took.

Gray was a monologist, something that is damn hard to do, but he also had serious bipolar problems.

I wish I could have seen the college debate tour that Hunter used to do with G. Gordon Liddy back in the 80's, I heard they were a hoot!

There is a lot of difference between HST and South Park. Although when either are at the top of their game they can make you cry from laughing so hard.

Noted leftists who have killed themselves:

Hunter S. Thompson
Spalding Gray
Abbie Hoffman
Mitch Snyder (homeless advocate in Washington DC)
John Wilson (Washington DC City Council chairman)
Vince Foster

Noted conservatives who have killed themselves:

John East (who was in very poor health)
Linda Bowles

Ever notice leftists do themselves in so much more often? (If some of you conspiracy theorists want to knock Foster off the list, fine. But then it's still five to two in favor of the left. And I'm not even counting all those suicidal actors and singers who were probably mostly leftists.)

If you had read Hunter's work you'd realize he's not exactly Liberal or Conservative. He was his own breed.

Actually, South Park IS a great contribution to society. Its original, hilarious, and, if you get past the cursing & toilet humor, almost all the episodes have a great point to make (and usually a conservative one at that). Ever heard the term "South Park Republicans"?

That being said, its for adults only--kids should not be allowed to watch it, even if it is a cartoon.

Open you mind.

I do like SP a lot actually! So do lots of people here. I love The Simpsons as well. And D.H. Lawrence and Tenessee Williams who Bob Jones himself despises. Still a conservative though. :-)

I never got Kafka till I visited Prague just after the wall fell. Environment was a big role in his writings.

I really gotta dust off the old stuff and re-read, so much has been forgotten and lost.

They probably had to keep them in separate magnetic bottles.
