Parents rally activists in final battle to keep daughter alive [Terri Schiavo]
Times online.co.uk ^ | 2/21/2005 | Jacqui Goddard

Posted on 02/20/2005 5:52:01 PM PST by bjs1779

...Mr Schiavo, who lives with a girlfriend by whom he has two children, plans to withdraw the gastric tube through which his wife is fed when a temporary court order barring him expires tomorrow. He insists that his wife once told him that she would not want to be kept alive should she ever suffer brain damage, although he recalled the conversation three years after her collapse and only after winning $1 million in medical negligence damages relating to her early care....

" ... all I hear is that 'we have done everything we can' ...

Don't accept those wimpy answers from these people. There is always something else that can be done. They just define their powers too narrowly, by tea-party rules. The liberals never make that mistake. We must learn from them to NEVER TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER. Try saying that to the people answering the phone!!! This situation is far too serious to let people get away with the usual political hand-washing.

And you can always urge them to make as much noise as possible. To educate the people about the horrible thing that's being done, with the connivance of the judicial branch.

Why can't the court take over legal guardianship and order the tests? ...

There is a recent development [this afternoon, Monday, Feb 21] that the removal of the feeding tube is suspended and a special hearing will be on Wednesday, Feb 23, about this issue.

Some folks approached the judge about his Southern Baptist beliefs, and it appears to be working...

Please pray... And keep your innocence and faith close to your heart -- as well as your charity.

Would someone explain one thing for me? We live in
a country of checks and balances - where are the checks
and balances in the Florida judiciary?

She was obviously abused. I don't understand why there has not been an investigation into the abuse. The parents should call for one now. That might give Teri additional time. It might also prove her husband did it and he won't be allowed to make life or death decisions anymore.

Oh my God! How could a nurse do this? I am horrified. I am an R.N. I can't see any reason to do this at all.

How could doctors do harm to their patients? Not every one is as good as you are. Remember there was a nurse up this way who went from hospital to hospital in the North and killed his patients? They didn't figure out that it always happened on his watch for quite a while. I think he killed eleven people before they got to him. Horrible, isn't it?

The statute of limitations for assault has passed. The Schindlers tried to get it investigated as soon as they had the bone scan info, but probably 10 years or so had passed before they ever knew of it! Awful, isn't it?

"Have no fear, the "right" will wimp out as it always does. There will be lots and lots of prayer, but very little action."

And /or they'll stop those on the right who are willing to take action.

Yes. While I was in Florida I saw a story on the news about a nurse who had murdered a baby. She was up for parole. They suspected her of having murdered many more on her shift over the years.

Just reading your posts...

TEJ article

Pattern Of Alleged Collusion, Bias In Guardianship Cases
Of Schiavo Judge

This may explain a lot especially if/when more people come forward.

It's possible that there's a long history of "you cover my a", "I'll cover yours" in Pinellas.

There is no statute of limitations on attempted murder, is there? If Scott Peterson could be convicted, why can't this guy? He has covered up his actions long enough. appears to me like someone really dropped the ball. If Terri had been a child, the police would have been informed of the results of the bone scan as soon as it was done. It shows a pattern of abuse.

She is in a hospice, guarded like a criminal. Last time they pulled the plug, there were more cops out there then I have ever seen assembled. She was "guarded" by Michael's girlfriends mother, who at the time would not let Mrs. Schindler in to see her own daughter

They are soulless, they would not even allow the priest to do last rites because they said the Eucharist was food.

I'm not sure whether there is in Florida. I think it varies by state. On the other hand, it's apt to be very hard to get a conviction so long after the apparent crime has been committed. Defense attourneys can make jurors doubt why the prosecution waited so long to come forward. On the other hand, if Michael succeeds in killing Terri, that would be a 'fresh' crime legally even if the actions to undertake the murder go back. And a prosecutor could say he hadn't been prosecuted for murder before because Terri was still alive.

I would hope that she does not have to die for him to be brought to justice if indeed he is the cause of all of the trauma she sustained.

You are going to say I watch too much tv, but how about "Cold Case Files"? Cases are solved many years after the actual crimes and people are tried and brought to justice. The prosecutors may not have had all of the information in Teri's case at the time of her injury to try him.

I was praying extra hard while the hearing was in progress this afternoon. At that point, I had already made phone calls, sent letters, sent e-mails, and shared information with countless people. None of those previous actions had any effect on Judge Greer's decision to grant another stay. Prayer was the only tool I had for addressing that situation. I set aside some time, and just prayed. I've done a lot of praying over this, and it's had a more powerful effect than anything else I've done.

All these calls are making them feel the heat. Whether they end up doing something or not, we have demonstrated to them how much we care about this. That they are being watched, and that those who permit this legalized murder are the objects of widespread public contempt. Down the road, this can have an impact.

I don't know if prayer has an effect or not. It may. Or, if the Lord expects us to run affairs on our own, it may not. But I can say confidently that all the prayer in the world will not demonstrate to the other side, or to our own leaders such as Governor Bush, that there are millions of Americans who are horrified by this situation. And that is essential.
