The Palestinian political z(they said that, not me) group Hamas issued a stark warning on Saturday of any harm done to the holy Al Aqsa Mosque in light of repeated Jewish extremists' threats to blast it.
The Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said his group held Israel responsible if any harm were to fall on the Mosque and urged fellow Muslims to shoulder their responsibility vis-à-vis such threats.
"The Zionist information on presence of such planning was a clear attempt to prepare for it actually taking place," Abu Zuhri conveyed.
"We believe the Jewish state is providing cover for those fanatic groups that attempt to attack the Aqsa Mosque, and we consider such threats as official Zionist threats," he added.
Hamas' words were the reiteration of the Aqsa Foundation for the Maintenance of the Islamic Shrines who warned last week of an imminent air strike on the holy Aqsa Mosque by Jewish fanatics who had frequently voiced their eagerness in wanting to bomb the holy Muslim site.
The foundation issued a statement in which it urged the concerned Arab and Islamic institutions to hold an emergency meeting in order to discuss the measures necessary to protect the Mosque against any Israeli aggression.
"The announcement of high-ranking Israeli security authorities that the potentiality of launching an air strike on the Aqsa Mosque was mounting posed a danger to the site, a matter that necessitated Arab and Islamic substantial efforts to work out the necessary strategies to foil all Israeli evil plans," the statement read.
The foundation further urged the Arab and Islamic countries not to remain silent in regards to Israeli plans aimed at annihilating the Arab and Islamic identity of occupied Jerusalem in general and the Aqsa Mosque in particular.
Moreover, the Aqsa foundation held the Israeli government responsible for any attacks on the Mosque, and noted that any Israeli warnings on this issue were deceptive and mainly designed to enhance the Israeli image before the world.
It also asked the holy site's guards to exercise utmost caution so as to prevent Israeli extremists from harming the Mosque.
Meanwhile, Ali Abu Sheikhah, head of the foundation, cautioned that any assault on the holy site would trigger a third world war with catastrophic consequences.
"We responsibly say that any aggression on the Aqsa Mosque would fuel a third world war. Indeed, we doubt the Israeli security authorities' measures allegedly meant to foil the extremist groups' vicious plans," he remarked.

I think Hamas, as Syria assasinated the former Lebanese PM, would like to blow up the mosque and blame Israel to sabotage any chance of peace in the region.

It's unfortunate that the Israeli army didn't blow it off the face of the earth when the temple mount was re-taken.
5,000 IDF Troops can secure that site, easily. The muslim garbage already trashed Joseph's Tomb once; that's enough.
The thing that pisses me off about the Mosque (among other things) is the fact that Islam is a Johnny come lately to Jerusalem. Yet they control the land the mosque sits on. I believe they have also made it difficult for the Jews to worship on adjoing property. I was never clear on who and what stood on the Temple Mount..

I'm saying that Moslems don't respect anyone else's shrines or holidays. They're on the record showing what they think is okay to do. Perhaps Israel should honor their traditions just this once.
In that part of the world, your observation makes a lot of sense.
Israel should wholesale kill them all. That's the only way Israel will survive and prosper. Acquiescing to muslim garbage is a sign of weakness, and a death sentence.
Hamas complaining about "extremists" is like Dan Rather complaining about bloggers.
Nah, I wouldn't advise that. But I would approve of removing the occasional eye sore.
