DAVENPORT David Luers had a dream: Buy the dilapidated barn off Highway 1, demolish it and build a wine and cheese shop hed run with his wife.
Santa Cruz County officials approved the plan, as did the state Coastal Commission.
But nine years after buying the abandoned structure at Highway 1, Old Coast Road and Davenport Avenue, Luers is living in Idaho, where hes running a gift shop and wondering how he can unload the property.
Earlier this month, a San Francisco Superior Court judge agreed with Sierra Club arguments that Luers plans for a 6,000-square-foot building encroached on environmentally sensitive San Vicente Creek home to protected coho salmon, steelhead trout and red-legged frogs.

But what about the old davenport that's in the barn? I hear that's a cockroach habitat.
Not a bad car for $600...
There is no way anyone wants to buy his land for what it should be worth.
Yep. Sounds right. That's how it usually works. Drive the price down, then some 'conservancy group will pick it up for a song, for 'open space', then sell it to some government entity for a huge profit.
Too bad we can't make construction sites the endangered species."
Sorry,I took it the wrong way.
BTTT!!!!!!!
The idea being that they would be protected and allowed to flurish.
May God Bless your sister and her/your family.
I LOVE the Fish Hook! If you take the Fishhook corner (car with low center of gravity of course -Hwy1N from 41st going towards mission st.) You can make it with the tires squeelin all the way around the apex.. I got a thumbs up once, opposite reaction of what i thought i'd get :D . So many people Bite it there on the fishhook.
I've only crashed on Laurel Curve-hwy17. Just like everyone else hehehe!
LOL My Vic can't quite hang, when I had a Kia Sephia I could take the H1 North towards Mission at about 60. I have'nt stacked at Laurel Curve (yet!) but I've had a close call or two.
Crown Victoria? Those are heavy LOL.
I have a Subaru Forester. The funny thing is about driving the windy roads, you'll crash when/where you least expect it. The nastiest spill Ive seen to date is on Laurel Curve, It was about 1 year and a half back i think, Some kids missed the laurel curve wet,( where there is no divider) and went smack into the on comming lane kissing a semitractor, then they got hockepucked back across the opposite lane again.
They were cutting the person out when i drove by, I couldn't even see them as it was a small honda type vehicle. They bounced and They were pretty well jammed in there.
Yep. Heavy but I feel safer in it. Pretty decent power too. My buddy just got a WRX Impreza, then dropped about $3,000 on aftermarket parts, now that thing frickin screams. I'm jealous now. How's the Forester, good car? Yeah H17 is nuts, and when it rains it's only worse. People are idiots around here.
My friend has a WRX too, He has it stock but loves it.
I love the Forester, Great car even though i got mine used and has seen more than most subarus would. I've got 58,000 now if i remember. It's great on 17 for super rainy days. There is no substitute for experienced driving though, I realize even AWD (allweeldrive) has it's limits when it hits slippery conditions.
The commercials i think are a Crock as the awd is nice, it wouldn't be hard for someone to take it for granted and crash and burn. AWD is like ABS, it helps, but like you said, if you got an idiot behind the wheel, forget it! Crown Vic are nice cars, my fav is the lincoln Town car when it comes to big wheels, I don't know how they are compared to your Vic, i like the later models for their nice styling, good enough for everyday driving, nice enough for a night out Tuxedo style.
The Vic sucks up gas like a basehead does crack, so my next ride will be something a little smaller. My fiances brother sold it to us for a grand, beats a monthly payment so I don't mind paying for the gas. Yeah I agree AWD and ABS are no substitute for good driving skills. AFAIK the Crown Vic and the Lincoln Town Car are basically identical expect for badging and the headlights. Pontiac Bonnevilles are nice too, rented one once, they haul big-time! Nicest car I ever drove was a friends Mitsubishi Eclipse. Sucker corners like a champ and it's not even the AWD model!
I agree, I got my Subaru from a friend, paid cash (insurance companies are like EX GFs, they want to get one last screw-and not in a good way in this case )After my accident (hence Laurel Curve), i bought the car from my friend cash and had to get only liabilty because i couldn't afford full coverage as my rates went thru the roof (litteraly too). Finally my insurance is slowly going down so eventually i'll be able to put full covrge back on. I'm thankful for no car payments though. My next car i'm hoping to pay cash again if i ever buy one, I'm tired of anykind of Payments.. i didn't know the Crwn Victoria and Twncar were the same. Hows your MPG ? Do you travel to san jose or you lucky with no commute?
LOL ("One last screw...") As far as MPG I'd say close to 18 street and about 23 freeway, it goes up with premium a little. I swear by Cleanpower (check the fuel system cleaner section @ Winchester Auto). I commute from S.C near Dominican Hospital to Scotts Valley, takes about 8 mins. I'd probably make more in SJ but screw that drive! Shoot, I'm at work now.
Hehehe ! MPG not bad at all for a "big" car. I'm sure it rides nice, as most big american cars do. I'm stuck at work too. I commute from LaSelva to Santa clara, I fill up my tank at least twice a week, but i do "spirited" upshifts, that's why i got a 5spd. If i drive like a little old man, the gas savings makes quite a difference.
That's a nice area, I used to live off Freedom Blvd nr Aptos HS, and worked at Seascape Resort (now that was a short commute!) I'm getting a little burnt on graveshift but I would'nt be getting paid to FReep on days. Hell, they've got a T1 here! The Vic is comfy but it took a while getting used to the size. The Kia was tiny compared to this beast, but it got zero respect. It was pretty quick though, and a full gas tank lasted about 5 days if we did'nt go beyond the basic work/store/home scenarios.
