Good timing, because pitchers and cat6chers have already reported.

Ugueth Urbina is a relief pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. His mother was kidnapped for ransom (since he makes millions).

If true, this is great news.

And she's been missing for months, I think, right? It was during the season last year that she was kidnapped, if I remember correctly. I'm glad to hear she's apparently free and OK.

Dear Ugie:
When you sign a big-league contract and get paid a bazillion dollars to throw a baseball, your first order of business should be to move your entire family OUT of the rat-hole where you grew up.

Yeah, I think Jack Bauer got in there and shot a dozen people and freed the woman.

A little thing called immigration laws in the way.

I believe his mother didn't want to leave.
To: Strategerist
I believe his mother didn't want to leave. Lots of folks never wanted to leave Detroit, either . . .

I don't think "immigration laws" would ever get in the way of a multi-millionaire bringing his family to the U.S.
Heck, if she came across the Rio Grande they'd call her a "guest worker" even if she were 70 years old and confined to a wheelchair.

Glad they rescued her! The daughter of the former President of Paraguay was kidnapped by FARC a couple of months ago - and they just found her body yesterday (she had been buried alive). These creeps play for keeps.

Urbina plays for Detroit, so I guess by your standards he and his mother are screwed...
