Yeah, an earthquake happens when one plate slips against another. When that happens, the stress is moved along to another part of the plate, or to the next plate. That extra stress will often make the next part slip, and so on. The parts of the ring of fire around the Pacific (west and east) are interconnected, so it could show up in Alaska or California.
Interesting, a 5.2 today in the Aluetian Islands and 5.5 in Taiwain as well today. Lots of activity today according to this site.

Due to side by side display of the graphics, I think the large picture is slightly smaller (so the scale of the cirlces is visually off) than it is on the website.
I thought there was one on Sulawesi, though :) Maybe more than one? Eeek.
Lots of things "rock" for AP jornalists. They should try find a new word. Bombs rock Bahgdad, Earth quakes "rock" Indonesia, Mic Jaggar "Rocks" the UK, etc.
There are an average of 3 to 4 Magnitude 5 to 6 earthquakes a Day around the world.
On average there's a 6+ magnitude quake every 2-3 days.
There's lots of activity EVERY day, earthquake-wise.
In the Third World, if there's a dispute between the local country and NEIC on the size of a quake, NEIC is always right.
I need the name of a children's story. The story involves some animal going to another and saying, "I'm going to eat you!" The other, more clever animal says, "Oh, no you can't do that! I need to do such and such first!" So, the bad guy agrees to help finish the task. After the task is finished, the bad guy says again, "I'm going to eat you!". Again, the clever animal puts him off with more chores until the clever animal wears the bad guy out and he falls asleep or something.
Can anyone remind me of the title of this story?

I looked up that title and I don't think that is it. Thanks though. It's so frustrating! I KNOW it's a famous folk tale but I can't think of the title. Everyone I ask says it sounds familiar but no one can come up with specifics! LOL! I need to reference it for paper I'm writing.

A strong seism shakes the island indonésienne of Sulawesi
JAKARTA - a strong seism a magnitude of 6,9 on the scale of Richter shook Saturday the island indonésienne of Sulawesi, causing a rise of water and making fear a new tsunami, the services of meteorology announced.
The underwater seism occurred with 8H04 (00H04 GMT) with 224 kilometers in the south of Kendari, capital of the province of Sulawesi South-west, declared with the AFP Sutiono, of the national Agency of meteorology and geophysics.
"It was reported that the seism caused a rise of water among three and four meters but us did not receive information on possible damage or victims. People were afraid of a tsunami ", it indicated.
Radio operator Elshinta affirmed that the walls of an official building were damaged by the seism.
Sounds like The Three Bears, to me.
