Delegate Albo tries to raise taxes using state troopers
Virginia Club for Growth ^ | 2-18-2005 | Ben Sykes

Posted on 02/18/2005 3:22:33 PM PST by bensykes

A Northern Virginia anti-gun "Republican" legislator, Dave Albo, is trying to raise taxes through the back door on Virginians. And guess why he's doing it? To fill his own pockets! He wants to increase the fines for speeders and other serious traffic offense by hundreds of dollars. Why? I guess he wants to increase the size of the nanny state exponetially. The Virginia Club for Growth is all over it:

"On a personal level, for Del. Albo to be sponsoring such a bill also sets a terrible precedent. In proposing this legislation Albo is facing an apparent, if not actual, conflict of interest.

You see, Albo makes his living as an attorney representing traffic violators in court. A cynic could, therefore, conclude that Albo’s sole motivation in raising the fines and penalties imposed on traffic offenders is to ensure that more of them would seek attorneys to represent them in traffic court." - The Virginia Club for Growth

So Albo is raising taxes to line his pockets? And not even in an honest way...at least the liberals and socialists on the other side come out and say "I'm raising taxes". Albo hides behind state troopers who will now be roaming our streets looking for government revenue to feed into more pork and programs. WTF???

Regards, Ben Sykes

Jail for speeding? No. That's insane. Jail for vehicular homicide? Sure, fine with me. That's just common sense.

What you are saying is that the fines are dedicated to specific accounts.

Many people like that ~ it's like the Baptist custom of taking several collections on Sunday for different purposes.

Over in the Christian church, there's one pot, one collection. Folks want the church leadership to lead and make those spending decisions in that bunch. That's why they're not Baptists.

Highway funding is the same sort of thing. Many laws in this country dedicate specific revenue streams to specific uses. One popular technique is to route all the lottery profits to the schools (for example).

Different places do it differently. I'd suggest that you do what the Christian Church and Baptist Church members do when they decide they don't like what's going on in their respective collections ~ THEY CHANGE CHURCHES.

A little research on the net and I think you could find a state or two without dedicated revenues for highways.

Look, there are people here who don't like FINES for speeding either. I'm simply suggesting we can find all our psychological needs satisfied by simply abolishing the fines and tossing the offenders in jail where they belong.

Now, what is it, fines or jail ~ there's no third choice!

I like the idea of dedicated funding. But this funding is based on teh premise that an increase in fines WILL NOT DECREASE SPEEDING. That's where the $180 million comes from. Albo doesn't care if speeding decreases - he just wants to get this bill through to line his pockets. That's why the Republicans in the senate killed it and that's why the Club for Growth opposed it.

The Club for Growth has sided with our Corporatist Governor Warner on stuff before too. Buncha' fascist apparatchiks, him and them both.

Besides, speeding fines are more or less like users fees. But, if you don't like them, just stick them in jail (and give them the bill for that).

club for growth sided with warner? damn...didn't know that.

Well my take on them is that they're good republicans. They're independent sometimes, and I like that.

You will probably find some states without dedicated funds for highways.........but I don't know anywhere you will find anyone agreeing that a Baptist Church is different from a Christian Church. I was raised Catholic and I know bloody well that a Baptist Church is still a Christian Church.

PROTECT has it's own agenda.

There was a bit of public discussion of the proposed legislative changes at the time, but it wasn't a big deal.

However, one article on the net written by a knowledgeable person in yet a different child protection oriented charity noted that Virginia law ALREADY carved out special status for prison guards and family members ~ that was PROTECT's major complaint.

Sometimes it's worth digging into these things before accepting any lobbyists "news release" at face value.

I suspect somebody want's Dave's job.

The Catholic Church is not the Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church!

However, if you are interested we get more than our fair share of converts and they are allowed to pray novenas since that's been their custom all their lives until their divorces!

Well, remember us if you ever have the need.

BTW, something for you to know ~ those of us not born to Catholicism, who were never Catholics aren't really considered "heretics". However, if you had to "convert", so to speak, the Holy Father would have to consider you a heretic, so be careful ~ they're not like the Moslems where they are supposed to kill you or something, but there are penalties for early withdrawal!

This is a thread about idiocy regarding taxation and Rinos in the legislature - not about attempting to convert others to your chosen denomination of religion.

National Drivers Licence ,, or National ID,

You're the guy who turned this into a thread concerning potential real estate sales in your neighborhood! (ROTFLMAO)

So, why not put some religion into it?

I thought it was legislation establishing "standards" applicable to all state driver's licenses ~ not a national driver's license.

We just recently got all the terrorists out of the system wo why would we want to sign on to a new system that hadn't yet been purged.
