A Northern Virginia anti-gun "Republican" legislator, Dave Albo, is trying to raise taxes through the back door on Virginians. And guess why he's doing it? To fill his own pockets! He wants to increase the fines for speeders and other serious traffic offense by hundreds of dollars. Why? I guess he wants to increase the size of the nanny state exponetially. The Virginia Club for Growth is all over it:
"On a personal level, for Del. Albo to be sponsoring such a bill also sets a terrible precedent. In proposing this legislation Albo is facing an apparent, if not actual, conflict of interest.
You see, Albo makes his living as an attorney representing traffic violators in court. A cynic could, therefore, conclude that Albo’s sole motivation in raising the fines and penalties imposed on traffic offenders is to ensure that more of them would seek attorneys to represent them in traffic court." - The Virginia Club for Growth
So Albo is raising taxes to line his pockets? And not even in an honest way...at least the liberals and socialists on the other side come out and say "I'm raising taxes". Albo hides behind state troopers who will now be roaming our streets looking for government revenue to feed into more pork and programs. WTF???

Well, maybe we need something else ~ a stiffer penalty that doesn't touch people's money ~ maybe 6 months in jail.

We have a bunch of banditti out there who claim that obeying the law infringes on their liberty. Then they complain about their buddy, Dave Albo, who doesn't want folks like me to be packing heat while we are out there driving on the public roads when the banditti are cruising for whatever it is they cruise for.
The only conclusion is that the banditti are nuts and shouldn't be listened to. They don't like the law. They don't like to obey it. They don't like fines. They don't like their friends in the legislature.
Round 'em up and stuff 'em in the county lockup ~ let's get those badboys cooled down.
sadly, i believe you will find very few Republicans (some call themselves conservative) who will see this as a bad thing. they believe in more LE, more "security" more fines, more rules and regs, etc. i see it every day at FR and in my state capitol too. well, in DC also. the Republican party has been hijacked by pro-big gvt high spenders who have no regard for the Constitution and BoR. that's the truth.
Statists, by definition, like government solutions for everything and care little for liberty. The major parties are both lousy with statists.
I think you just don't like traffic laws ~ may I recommend you go build a private road someplace where you can release these urges of yours.
BTW, a public highway is a "government solution" isn't it. If you don't like government solutions stay the heck off the highway!
i'm in a cranky mood of late.. it's the law passing time of year.. and i get sick over all the new laws. stinking bloated gvt on all levels.
and then i come to FR and see this group think mentality when it comes to this bs "security" nanny law crap. i wonder if these new type Republicans would all be cheering and high-fiving each other if this was being done by democrats? at least i expect it from them... it's depressing..
Here's the problem:
We're talking about a $350 fine for speeding. INSANE!
For reckless? $600. That's 20mph over the limit. I mean, come on.
And Virginia has a surplus! Why do we need to raise this money again?
Oh I forgot, Mr. Albo's lawfirm stands to benifit (they represent speeders).
well I guess you've just got to go out there and vote for the best guy - cause it's hard to tell which party is trying to inflate the government more

Now, when it comes to lawbreakers who put all our lives at risk on the highways, simply raise the fines to a meaningful level. Or, alternatively, begin imposing jail time on these guys.
No, the government will make more money off his guilty clients.
Dave will have an even harder time collecting his fees they're gonna' be so broke.
I like the idea of jail time for reckless driving myself! 6 months first offense. 24 months the second. Life on the third.

Ha - right now no one protests speeding tickets because they're relatively cheap and not worth the trouble. Certainly rarely worth the trouble of a lawyer.
But if you raise them by 4 or 5 times, well then people start thinking "I really should try to get out of this...". And guess who they hire? The #1 traffic attorney firm in Virginia, Albo and Oblom.
lol... yeah. all the Roscoe P Coltrane types are real impressive. or at least they seem to think so. young punks with a gun and over blown ego, and the right to do a search and seizure with no warrent. we have had more people shot to death by LE in SD then people shot to death by non LE in the last few years. and very few victims were armed. oh.. and one LEO was just charged w/ rape this last week. we are talking a small populated state. the HP gets a bounty for every ticket - i'd call that Police state, not civil service. they don't serve the public, they harrass the public- for a bounty. and fyi, i have never been ticketed in my life. not even speeding. i just love our Constitution and wish we all had to follow the rules.... not just the civilians. because while my rights are constantly shrunk and infringed on - theirs just gets more bloated and law-less.
Albo has screwed up as a legislator left and right. Good riddance I say. He wrote a bill last year that made him look like he supported child molestation and unchecked sodomy of minors. The Demowimps over here are all over him on that, and he just whines like a little baby. Get a real Republican in there.

And what about the idea of the police out there looking for government revenue? Doesn't that smack you as WORSE than a tax increase?
I know there's alot of animosity out there towards the cops, but I for one support 100%. They're out there risking their lives and they don't need to be turned into tax collectors.
what exactly are you talking about with teh child molestation thing? I always thought albo was the tough on crime type - i mean - so tough that he wants to take all of our guns away
