D.C. Chapter to Hold Demonstration in Support of Jeff Gannon and the First Amendment, 2/18/05
Friday, February 18, 2005 | Kristinn

Posted on 02/18/2005 6:28:03 AM PST by kristinn

All FReepers and lurkers in good standing are invited to join the D.C. Chapter in our demonstration this evening. Details in the following press release:

DEMONSTRATION IN SUPPORT OF JEFF GANNON
&
THE FIRST AMENDMENT

WHEN: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2005, 6 P.M. TO 8 P.M.
WHERE: THE SIDEWALK BY MONICA’S GATE,
AKA THE NORTHWEST VISITORS ENTRANCE
THE WHITE HOUSE, 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVE., NW, WASHINGTON, D.C.

(Washington) The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic, an independent grassroots organization, will be holding a demonstration at the White House this evening in support of former Talon News White House Correspondent Jeff Gannon and the rights of other reporters to do their jobs without fear of being destroyed by the political establishment.

The group will also be bringing attention to several First Amendment-related issues pertaining to the current imbroglio. Among them are the unconstitutional efforts of Democratic congressmen to determine who is a reporter and efforts by the establishment media to shut out Internet-based news sites from having access to government press conferences.

Kristinn Taylor, Co-Leader of the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic, issued the following statement: “It is common knowledge that Jeff Gannon was singled out for personal destruction for the crime of asking a question of the President of the United States at a press conference that was insulting to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

“The Clintonista slime machine, led by former Clinton White House Chief of Staff John Podesta’s Media Matters for America, went into high gear and made an example of Mr. Gannon to any reporter who might dare to challenge Sen. Clinton’s credibility in her anticipated 2008 presidential candidacy.

“What was done to Mr. Gannon was the Clinton impeachement era Ellen Romesch strategy played out for all concerned parties to see. The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic will be out demonstrating for the rights of Mr. Gannon and all other reporters to exercise their rights without fear of personal destruction.”

When this started, DU was Googling "Jeff Gannon" and those pics never appeared. (I read their site) Then, the night before Americanblog posts their male prostitute story, Volia!, there's pics and they post on DU that the story is about to break. The Gannon story has been incremental. If a "revelation" doesn't work, add more. And THAT is what causes me to pause and question the veracity of most of this story. The first pic was supposedly from Gannons AOL homepage but it was posted on DU and had no identifers. Most overlooked that. So americanblog then finds more "pics" when the porn website story didn't do the trick. Most of this doesn't pass the "smell test".

Hint: not everything can be explained away by suspicion of nefarious activity by the Clintons or their cronies. And sometimes people who claim to be conservative do really stupid things.

No, I agree with you, all I am saying is, I don't know the whole story, and I guess I feel more comfortable not judging until I do. It irks me that the spin on all this is, that they now have a new watergate or some such nonesense, and can bring down the "Bush Regime"

I'm not going to lose any sleep over Gannon being pilloried for being an idiot.

Nor am I. But I might lose a little sleep if there's a public vigil for this guy and freerepublic.com appears on any of the signs.

I don't claim to be able to read Jeff Gannon's mind, but it seems to me that by resigning his position, shutting down his blog, and refusing to speak to the press anymore, Jeff Gannon has tried to remove himself from the stage.

Unless you know otherwise from having spoken to him, I don't see how pushing him back on the stage helps him... or us.

I'd be a lot more likely to be suspicious of the accusations if Guckert would just say, "I am not and was not a male prostitute."

We're going to get a bunch of people out there to support a fake reporter who publicly advertised as a male prostitute on the internet? Sorry, I'll pass...

There's a lot more pictures of him out there. In much more offensive poses. Could they all have been photoshopped and put out there before all this happened? I doubt it. Gannon hasn't denied the pictures were of him.

Let's ask our resident expert. Registered - what do you think about that Gannon photos? Thanks in advance...

My problem with the pics is that DU was Googling Gannons names and using those cache searching engines and all that came up were the defunct gay site names. No pics. Then americanblog finds them after DU couldn't? I find that suspicious.

Gannon hasn't denied the pictures were of him.

Gannon has an attorney who has advised him to quit talking. And thanks for pinging Registered as I didn't think of it.

You've got to know when to hold 'em and know fold 'em. This mess doesn't need support and, in fact, deserves ridicule.

This is a really bad idea, and will bring disrepute on everything else you have done and will ever do.

Why is this a first amendment issue?

MSM types, who are not at all happy about the rise of the average blogger, is doing its best to have people with their own websites, or blogs, from being shut out of press conferences with government officials.

Thanks for the ping. Has the press considered how they would feel if someone Gannoned them? Liberal reporters live in glass houses too.
