D.C. Chapter to Hold Demonstration in Support of Jeff Gannon and the First Amendment, 2/18/05
Friday, February 18, 2005 | Kristinn

Posted on 02/18/2005 6:28:03 AM PST by kristinn

All FReepers and lurkers in good standing are invited to join the D.C. Chapter in our demonstration this evening. Details in the following press release:

DEMONSTRATION IN SUPPORT OF JEFF GANNON
&
THE FIRST AMENDMENT

WHEN: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2005, 6 P.M. TO 8 P.M.
WHERE: THE SIDEWALK BY MONICA’S GATE,
AKA THE NORTHWEST VISITORS ENTRANCE
THE WHITE HOUSE, 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVE., NW, WASHINGTON, D.C.

(Washington) The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic, an independent grassroots organization, will be holding a demonstration at the White House this evening in support of former Talon News White House Correspondent Jeff Gannon and the rights of other reporters to do their jobs without fear of being destroyed by the political establishment.

The group will also be bringing attention to several First Amendment-related issues pertaining to the current imbroglio. Among them are the unconstitutional efforts of Democratic congressmen to determine who is a reporter and efforts by the establishment media to shut out Internet-based news sites from having access to government press conferences.

Kristinn Taylor, Co-Leader of the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic, issued the following statement: “It is common knowledge that Jeff Gannon was singled out for personal destruction for the crime of asking a question of the President of the United States at a press conference that was insulting to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

“The Clintonista slime machine, led by former Clinton White House Chief of Staff John Podesta’s Media Matters for America, went into high gear and made an example of Mr. Gannon to any reporter who might dare to challenge Sen. Clinton’s credibility in her anticipated 2008 presidential candidacy.

“What was done to Mr. Gannon was the Clinton impeachement era Ellen Romesch strategy played out for all concerned parties to see. The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic will be out demonstrating for the rights of Mr. Gannon and all other reporters to exercise their rights without fear of personal destruction.”

BTW, since you're signed up over there, you might want to mention to the looney tunes who thinks President Bush is hugging Gannon, that the man being hugged is black.

Thanks for posting that link.

The smoking gun they've been desperately waiting for? LOL! This story will be over within a month or less. It's just a man with a sordid past who happens to be conservative and so, is now being attacked by the MSM (although, as I said, I'm not so sure conservatives should rally around him).

I also found the "Gannon & Karl Rove were gay lovers" post to be funny. Boy, can these guys be delusional.

I hope your headache improves. :)

americanblog is allied with DU.

So they want to sound patritic just to attract web visitors?

I can't believe a Democrat would stoop to that level!

I'm shocked I tell you!

LOL! I have to say, my son walked towards me while I had that on the screen and I can't think of a time when I've minimized faster. :)

Okay, so we shall see what happens/what turns out to be true. If it's true that this these accusations are garbage, then yes, this must be pursued.

Anyway, goodnight, all.

I watched that press conference where Gannon asked his question, and I thought it was very articulate and I was silently cheering because someone had finally asked a question that wasn't couched in politically correct language! For that he is being destroyed--by bashing his personal life? Typical MSM/DUM-o-cRAT tactics toward anyone or anything conservative. Hope he has a strong constitution! And I hope he overcomes these attacks! Go DC FReepers!

The problem here is people are comparing Gannon to Clinton trying to make Gannon into GWB.

Gannon is gone (well, he'll be on Anderson Cooper on CNN shortly)...gone from the press room and he was not the POTUS and he was not a plant.

That is my problem with the story, is the morphing of Gannon into GWB.

If he had not resigned I would see your point about character matters meaning exposure of unsavory business calls for a price to be paid. But he did resign.

"If he had not resigned I would see your point about character matters meaning exposure of unsavory business calls for a price to be paid. But he did resign."

That is a very good point. Again, I didn't know that b/c I was traveling.

*smiles sheepishly and reminds self that considering the knowledge base around here, not to post when I don't have all the information and have not thoroughly looked through the thread*

If he resigned, then what in the world is the big deal? He's not a public figure.

I wonder how many other reporters in the press pool have skeletons in the closet.

But again, getting back to my very first post on this thread, when I realized that my dad's caregiver was having an affair, I certainly gossiped about it to my sister, :) because it was a juicy tidbit :), but I thought, who cares what's going on in his private life?

And yet, the things that were "off" kept piling up.

In any case, this is a very interesting topic--what kind of behavior should people expect from public figures, and what about quasi-public figures like journalists? Especially in an era when standards of morality are changing so rapidly (I have to live here and listen to the pro-gay marriage arguments day in and day out).

Anyway, goodnight and thanks.

This isn't a first ammendment issue. There was no government censoring. He was a public person who was outed for outrageous personal behavior that runs counter to the standing he was trying to create as a conservative newsman. He chose to resign. Behavior has consequences. I don't want anyone like him on our side.

The silly thing is that the other side tries to link him to Bush, as if any of the other reporters in that room are cozy with Bush. Ha.

Gannon/Guckert was a minor league reporter who caught a break for awhile and got in the White House. Unfortunately he never had the class or credential to turn that luck into a lasting career.

I have a suggestion, you could all stand outside of a Whitehouse press briefing and hand out red or blue cards for the reporters to raise to be called on to answer a question so that the public would be aware of their party affiliation. Tell them that the left is demanding that they declare both their party affiliation and their sexual predilections. Also hand them rainbow stickers to be affixed to their card if they are Gay.

It pays to read the whole thread.

I don't have time to read an entire thread. The point is that the dirt that was dug up may be enough to sink any MSM reporter, but the only ones digging for dirt are the ones with their minds in the gutter, the left. I suggest that all the MSM reporters declare their own party affiliations and use a red or a blue card to be called on at Whitehouse briefings, with a large rainbow affixed for homosexuals. That would solve all the problems that the conservative bashing left seems to have.

I think your idea is great. Let them wear their affiliations and predilictions on their sleeves.

No, make cards that they hold up to be called on by Scott McClellan. Tell the reporters that you will be there before every press briefing in case they forget their card.
Make sure that you apologize and tell them that it is the anti-Bush reporters who are demanding that the reporters' affiliations be declared, the name some names.

This is absolutely right, kristinn, and thanks to you and the chapter for doing it. Although I must admit there's half of me (the bad half) that says, "let's go with the precedent and turn it on the left!"
