A Way to Save Terri Schiavo
wotan | Feb 18, 2005 | wotan

Posted on 02/18/2005 6:25:20 AM PST by wotan

Here's a way Jeb Bush may be able to save Terry Schiavo: Open an investigation into the possible assault that led to her comatose condition. Have the state pay for her maintenance to "preserve the evidence" and pay for language therapy for her so she can tell us what she knows about how she got into the coma. It struck me that the reason her husband wants her dead might be because he's afraid of what she'll say if she recovers. I don't see how a judge could possibly deny the state the right to preserve evidence of a serious assault.

Hope she's not dead yet.

Welcome to Free Republic.

No, that wasn't too mushy at all.

A lot of people have that reaction when they discover FR.

We're happy to have you here - and we're always glad to have another Pro-Terri advocate on board.

But keep your flame suit ready - it's not for the faint of heart.

:-)

I couldn't quite place a tune for that. Here's my effort at something singable as patter song (not quite sure the name of the tune I'm placing it with mentally--maybe I'll sequence it).
All judges are good (yes so wonderfully good)
The great George Greer especially so.

His outstanding knowledge and obvious wisdom,
are always right out there to see
He ponders the facts; never one has he missed 'n
His rulings are free of all signs of faith Christian.
He's legally blind but no one can resist 'em
The great mighty Lord Judge Greer!

The voters in Florida just re-elected him
so he must certainly be the best.

Judge Greer is far better than that other guy who
had darèd to challenge his throne.
He cheated and got some illegal endorsements.
Ignoring what all the campaign rules of course meant.
For rules all mean nothing without some enforcement.
All hail the high Lord Judge Greer!

How can it be, then, that so many people
find fault with this fine judge?

They must be mistaken, or else very stupid,
to quarrel with George, George, and Michael.
These three fine fellows want what's best for Terri.
If you don't believe that, your mind must be very
prepared to discover things shocking and scary.
Best hail the high Lord Judge Greer!

If you people are so compassionate, put yourself in HER bed and tell me what your widhes would be.

This young lady has proven to me beyound a reasonable doubt that she whats to live....If her wishes were to die she would have a long time ago from her very minimal care...Why should she not live????? Her parents love her and want her AND she responds to them..Terri is not dying but if her HINO,Greer and Felos have their way she will be murdered with the sanction of the court.....

Your comment fits your name, but anyway, we understand that Terri is disabled and does not have certain capabilities, however, we do not believe that it is our (or anyone else's) right to kill her. We just don't know what could happen, miracles have happened, and from the videos I've viewed, Terri seems to have feelings (she laughs and smiles) and awareness particularly when interacting with her mom. I don't see the problem with her being cared for by her parents (especially when they're willing and able!!) who love her rather than starving her to death which is prolonging and extremely painful. For Christ's sake, Terri's a human being not a dog. No, we wouldn't even treat a dog that way.

Try as a tune. The middle section has a variable number of lines, but it should be pretty clear how it fits.

"Ask Terri's parents how many times a week they visit her?"

It is my understanding that Terri's parents are not allowed to visit Terri because of Michael's orders as husband/guardian (not legal guardian that's the judge's job at the judge's discretion).

"Next, where's all those protesters that are supposed to be at Hospice 24/7 to advance Terri's cause?"

Well I can't account for the Hospice in FL because I live in New York, what I do know is that Terri's parents spoke and attended the pro-life March in Washington, D.C. in January where there were approximately 100,000 people, were you there?

"Let me say, that I too am all for Michael turning Terri's life over to her parents..."

Yeah me too, but that's not what Michael is doing. He obviously (in plain language) wants her dead.

"Her dental health.... it is excellent and her teeth are attended to daily by a RN"

From what I've read at FR and elsewhere, she has not had any rehabilitative care in years, they don't even let her outside. Big deal her teeth are false and brand new, inmates at prison get the same care (not that they shouldn't I'm just saying that they do).

"Now, just where are Terri's parents going to find the money, facilities and time to care for Terri better then she is getting now? Are her parents multimillionaires?"

Look, I don't know if you're a parent or not, but as one I would do just about anything to support my child (no matter how old), and many people suffer from disabilities and are being cared for by their parents, and vice-versa. Since when do you have to be a multimillionaire to care for a disabled person? That's outrageous!!

"What's happening is you have developed a radical core approach to Terri's fight and the masses are being turned off by it."

We're defending life, if you think there is something radical about this, I just don't get it (honestly) but I don't get it either when people call us fanatics. Not sure it's accurate to say that the "masses" are turned off by pro-lifers for Terri or otherwise.

It's also amazing that long time FReepers are branded as trolls or simply insulted for having a view that differs with the "All Terri-All-The-Time" crowd. Sad

The "judge" is BLIND so seeing her for himself is kind of comedic. This whole thing is like a science fiction novel.

Do you really think Judge Greer believes Terri is PVS?

Can't Governor Jeb Bush make Terri a ward of the state? Can't he give her a reprieve from execution until this euthanasia issue is examined in all its legal forms? Can't he say, Not on my watch?

LOL!!!

I can't think of the tune, as I am a little weak in the Gilbert & Sullivan department.
But your poem is a vast improvement on mine.
And if a tune comes to mind, I'll certainly let you know.

It's obvious that her husband is a worthless piece of garbage who wants to shut her up forever. There would be no harm done if they would allow Terry to have the best treatment available over the next year or so to see whether she improves or not. They are in a rush to hurry up her execution and they force her to stay in bed with no treatment because they are afraid she might talk before she dies. The signals I see directed towards her from her husband are of hate and fear without the slightest bit of compassion. It's like he's saying, come on and die already.
