Stolen SUV ends up in water
Deputy injured in chase.
By Cindy West and Darrell Norman
A stolen sport utility vehicle ended up in the water after a chase that spanned three counties Thursday.
Boaz, Alabama Police Chief Terry Davis said that his department got a call around 11 a.m. from OnStar, the company that provides security and information services for automobiles using global positioning system satellite and cellular technology.
Over the next two hours, the chase continued at speeds sometimes reaching 120 miles per hour through parts of Etowah, DeKalb and Marshall counties, during which time the Yukon collided with an Alabama State Trooper patrol car and two DeKalb County Sheriff's Department cars, Davis said.
The Yukon hit a trooper car in the Geraldine area, and a DeKalb County patrol car wrecked in the Whiton area. Deputy Brad Edmundson, who had been closest in pursuit during much of the chase, was taken to Marshall Medical Center South in Boaz. A hospital spokeswoman said Thursday afternoon that Edmundson was still being treated in the emergency room. She did not say whether he would be admitted.
Officers from the sheriff's departments and several police departments, including Crossville, Collinsville, Geraldine, Albertville and Guntersville, participated in the chase at some point. State park rangers also became involved after Albertville police chased the Yukon down Martling Gap road and into Lake Guntersville State Park.
The chase ended on South Sauty Road in north Marshall County, where a bridge was out. The Yukon hit the second DeKalb County patrol car on old Alabama 227, and the Yukon eventually ended up in the water.

At the height of this fiasco there were approximately twenty-eight (28!) tax-payer funded law enforcement vehicles alone involved in this silliness.
And top it all off, the SUV was wrecked and ended up in 4-5 foot of water.
The only winners here was the insurance company and the collision repair shop owners.
I can't get these idiots to come by my house more than twice a month on a routine patrol. And that's usually only because they're going from one place to another.
OMIGOD, Rush is so right. They refer to this vehicle throughout as though it had a mind of its own!
"Whoooooo!"
If it had OnStar, seems like they could just go intercept it at their leisure.
Krispy Kreme shop?
OH CRAP, now they've learned to swim. We can't get away from them anywhere!!!
Well, this particular one couldn't swim good enough, but I hope they don't park it near any other SUV's, while it's awaiting repair.
Just think of the stories it will tell any others.
Maybe the judge will issue a gag order.
hahaha
I just traded in my 4yr old SUV - yukon XL - for something else - I was beginning to be afraid of it! lol
I was thinking the same thing, another posessed SUV. No mention of anyone driving it at all. Good thing it's onstar system (KIT) detected itself malfuntioning and reported itself to the main computer. I better go disable all that crap from my SUV before it drives off on it's own.

Ted Kennedy ?
Ping.
What idiots! If I were the SUV's owner or insurance carrier I would sue the police departments. Since the vehicle had OnStar there was no reason for any chasing, much less at 120 miles an hour. They would know exactly where it is at any moment. These buffoons must simply like the excitment of pretending that they're on "Cops." There is no car in the world that's worth chasing at 120 mph.
Ha Ha Ha
