Anyone with recent experience in Indiana CCW permit?

Does anyone have any recent experience in applying for a CCW permit in Indiana? I've already completed my application, been approved, and am waiting for the permit to arrive in the mail.

My question is: how long should I expect to wait? I've heard anything from 10 days to 3 months(!).

Yes, they are not allowed to ask why you want it. It is none of their business. All they need to know is are you a law abiding citizen, other than that they can go suck an egg.

Im in So. Indiana [Floyd co.] and seems to me that once I mailed the paperwork for the initial permit it took 2-3 weeks. the renewal seemes like it was slightly faster. Although in reality, the piece of paper was never more than just a 'formality 8^}'

BTW, 4" Ruger wheelgun in .357 w/ 3 speedloaders of golden sabres. Enough to ruin any bad guys day ...

Also, the best thing about the CCW is the ability to purchase pistols or 'assault weapons' the same day. no one weeks wait with that piece o paper...

What county are you in? In mine, it would take until hell freezes over.

It seems to me that my last renewal took a couple of months to arrive. I hope they've found a way to get that done a little faster recently.

Yeah--I heard about that. He probably just thought that the gun laws were for "little people."

Nah. He just believed what the constitution he swore to support and defend said:

U.S. Constitution, Section. 6, Clause 1: The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, beprivileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.

Mine was about 3 weeks. I seem to recall a 3-day weekend and postal holiday in there someplace, though.

One thing to note, as my Congressman learned, a CCW permit does not permit you to go into Kentucky and fly to DC with the gun in your briefcase.

Yes, and this is THE most ridiculous law on the books concerning CCW. What in hell good does it do a law abiding citizen not to be able to carry across state lines for protection when criminals can get away with it anyway?

Can anybody explain the logic?

The specific section you quote does not exempt congresscritters from US laws while they are in transit to their districts. The case law is very clear on that.

Hostettler just got lazy and arrogant. He thought he would get away with it because he's a politician, and it turns out he was right.

The trouble is, when a prominent supporter of gun rights screws up like this, it makes all of us look bad. That's where I find the most fault with him.

It arrived today!!!

I finally got fed up with waiting, so I went ahead and purchased the firearm I had my eye on. When I got back to my house this afternoon, the permit was waiting in my mailbox.

Total waiting time from the day I submitted the application: less than 3 weeks. Not bad.
