Anyone with recent experience in Indiana CCW permit?
today | self

Posted on 02/17/2005 8:23:06 AM PST by cicero's_son

Does anyone have any recent experience in applying for a CCW permit in Indiana? I've already completed my application, been approved, and am waiting for the permit to arrive in the mail.

My question is: how long should I expect to wait? I've heard anything from 10 days to 3 months(!).

One thing to note, as my Congressman learned, a CCW permit does not permit you to go into Kentucky and fly to DC with the gun in your briefcase.

Unfortunately, the information on packing.org seems to be out of date. The reader testimonial says that the permit was received within 2 weeks of mailing in the application. That was in 1999.

I spoke with someone today who said it could take 3 months...a long time to wait. I'm just looking for someone who has been through the process recently.

Yeah--I heard about that. He probably just thought that the gun laws were for "little people."

I'm from southern Indiana. I've had my CCW for a few years now. As I remember, I think it took several weeks to go through.

Sorry I'm in FL, I'll be sending off for my CCW soon.

That's just the best place I know for CCW info.

You might just posting this same question over at the forum there.

I really think he is just so use to carrying it around that he forgot he even had it. It was a serious brain fart. Of course, he is lucky he is a Congressman.

It didn't take the state police more than ten days to get mine back to me. Good idea to get it laminated.

I don't know. I don't have my permit yet, but I find it VERY hard to believe that anyone would "forget" that he had a handgun in a briefcase.

And frankly, if you do forget you have it, you probably have no business with a CCW permit in the first place. Kind of hard to be a responsible gun owner/carrier when you don't know where your gun is!

I live in NE Indiana and have had a CCW for over 5 years. I had to go down to the county identification office and apply. They then sent me a letter a couple of weeks later, in which I had to go back in and sign some stuff. From that point it took another 3 weeks and had mine in the mail. I went through this process twice as I just re-applied last November.

It depends on where you live. My friend in Noblesville (processed by Hamilton county sheriff) got his in about 10 days.

Mine took about 3 weeks (first time and renewal), but I live in Marion county. Marion county seems to take longer (maybe because of volume?).

(whupin' it out) Issued `02, expires `06.
You stated as your reason for exercizing your 2nd Amend. right "Personal Protection", right? (Not: "pistol-whipping pin-headed liberals". They frown on that.)
Seriously, don't wave/show your piece or drop it, or some pin-head will complain that you were 'brandishing', which is a bad thing. A good holster and you shouldn't 'print'.

What do you carry, if you don't mind my asking?

I'm about 235 and 6' & my everyday carry, a Beretta `Tomcat' .32 (Win. silvertips) in one breast pocket, 4 clips in other, no problem. I know some call that a 'mouse-gun' but I can hit a clay pigeon at ten feet and that's better than having my .45 Ruger or Browning 9mm--locked in my gunsafe.

Don't know about Indiana. Believe it or not, the Soviet of Washington (state) forces them to issue a CCW withing 30 days of the application. Years ago, when I applied for my permit in King County, there was a question on the app. It was asking something like "why do you want a CCW permit." I wrote "none of your business." They issued it. The fat, greasy broad at the counter glared at me, but they issued it.

I don't know about Indiana but in CA it takes about 30 days or less to receive your CCW. The background check is instaneous now so if they are taking a long time, more than 30 days, to issue it, they must just be playing games for whatever reason.
