Prospective Vikings Owner (and Prospective 1st Black NFL Owner) Caught Lying About Past
Minneapolis Red Star ^ | February 17, 2005 | Jay Weiner

Resume of prospective Vikings owner dogged by questions

Jay Weiner, Star Tribune

In his official biography, distributed Monday by his Twin Cities public relations firm, Reggie Fowler declared that he played in the Little League World Series, implied that he earned a business administration and finance degree from the University of Wyoming and said that he played for the Cincinnati Bengals of the NFL and the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.

According to officials with all of the sports organizations and official records at the NFL, CFL and University of Wyoming, none of those claims is exactly true.

Monday, Fowler, 46, announced with Vikings owner Red McCombs that he had signed a purchase agreement to buy the Vikings for about $625 million.

That purchase must gain approval from the other NFL owners. If approved, Fowler would become the first black owner in the NFL.

Reggie Fowler's entourage of partners and advisors tours the Metrodome on Monday.Richard SennottStar TribuneIn two brief interviews, before he declined further comment, Fowler said Wednesday that he had not seen the biography that was distributed Monday.

Before cutting off his second phone interview, Fowler said he would instruct his Twin Cities-based public relations firm, Tunheim Partners, to address all of the apparent discrepancies.

"I want your city to like me," he said. "I want to have credibility."

Late Tuesday afternoon, before any inquiries from the Star Tribune, Tunheim Partners began issuing clarifications to his biography.

You just can't make this stuff up. Figures a fiasco like this would happen to the Vikings - from Tom Clancy's failure to buy the team due to his divorce, to the idiocies of Red "Purple Pride" McCombs, and all of the other storied acts of stupidity by people associated with the Vikings ("My arms are stronger than your gun", "Calm Down", Demetrius Underwood, Artic Blast, too many D.W.I.'s to mention, "I only play when I want to", ad nauseum).

At least we beat the Packers! Yeah baby!!

Oh...yeah....the Vikings are just the gift that keeps on entertaining.

I love my team, and you are right. At least we beat the Packers....we can build on that ;-)

Oh, and one more thing....LONG LIVE CRIS CARTER! (had to throw that in there ;~)

What's the deal here... is this guy going to be the actual owner, or is he just the PR frontman for a group of investors? If the latter, it looks like they made a piss poor choice.

"I want to have credibility."

Real people don't ASK for credibility - they live it.

The article goes on to say that he was cut by the Bengals in training camp, and he was also cut by the Eagles. Perhaps his words were misconstrued in that he tried to make a roster for 3 years. Who knows?

There are 3 other investors, probably the chunk of the dough for the deal...

The Vikes have a karma thing going on.. not sure why.

That wrong way TD was an omen, maybe... forever to be racked against the shores of fate..

Sounds like somebody that has the money but not the pedigree.

Remember John F. Kerry!

Saw this coming a long way off. The wheels are coming off this wagon and Glen Taylor is waiting patiently to step in and own this team.

Just watch.

Reggie, we're called the Minnesota Vikings for a reason. I suggest you learn it.

I'll always fondly remember the night when the Vikings were playing on Monday Night Football during that semi-magical 1998 season, when the players were saying their names and their colleges, Carter, Robert Smith, and Korey Stringer all, with huge grins on their faces, said that they played at "THE Ohio State University", with extra emphasis on "the". Some pre-arranged prank of some sort amongst them.

Any team that would fire the big long snapper, number 68, Mike Morris, will never win a Super Bowl.
It has no soul.
