First lady shakes up White House staff
CNN.com ^ | February 16, 2005 | Kelly Wallace

Behind the scenes, first lady Laura Bush is making big changes for the next four years.

In the past two months, Mrs. Bush has hired a new social secretary and chief of staff -- and fired chef Walter Scheib III, who had been at the White House for 11 years.

"We don't usually think of Laura Bush as firing anybody," said Ann Gerhart, a political reporter for The Washington Post's style section. "She is just as loyal as everybody else in the Bush family. So I think it's very unusual."

and fired chef Walter Scheib III,

What? CNN is just throwing stones at the Bush family.

Chef Scheib himself said he wanted to leave, and issued a statement saying so. CNN is doing in print and deed what they blame bloggers for---spreading rumors.

Dumping the Clinton's chef was long overdue. Look what he did for Slick Willie!

Laura was extremely patient. If a chef wasn't fixing what I liked after two weeks of explaining it to him, he'd be gone.

"She does not have to help that man get elected again, and that is very liberating," Gerhart said.

Well, I wouldn't worry about Walter being able to find a new job. Having "White House Chef" on the resume would seem to be a ticket to most anywhere he wants to go!

Hehehe. With the highly rated restaurants and the TV shows, I didn't realize he was in need of a job.

I actually encountered Mario Batali sitting on the stoop of his townhouse. Pretty cool guy.
