World War 1

- World War 2

- Korean War

- Lebanon, 1983

- Iraq, 1990-1991

- Somalia, 1993

- ex-Yugoslavia, 1995-1999

- Afghanistan, 2001

- Haiti, 2003

Look you really do not want a critique of these wars from me except Afghanistan which all I can say is thank you, but most of the others my opinion is not that of yours and would truly offend a French man and that is not the point(the exception maybe because of lack of my knowledge is Korea).....

I know you love your country and do not want to understand why we as Americans could have turned so cold hearted toward France, especially with the anti-Amnerican propaganda and European superiority you are fed everyday, but if you are honest and actually listen to what your leaders say and do and put it into perspective about how much we have done for you and Europe as a whole out of friendship and what is morally right since the turn of the last century all the way through the cold war, most Americans had no clue you were anything more than a very trusted friend until the last few years. Your leaders did a good job in slapping them into very hard and quick into reality.

It is one thing to find an enemy working against you or one you do not know much about working against you but to find out that your trusted friend who your grandfather and great grandfathers fought to free and died doing so (when they could have stayed isolationist and left Europe to its own destruction)not to mention all of our tax money spent keeping Europe out of communist hands for 40 years while they built their socialist systems, stabbing you in the back when you call on them for help for the first time you truly need it???? It then becomes not so hard then to understand why Americans are not buying French wine in great numbers if you are honest.

So all in all I don't think we have many lessons to be taught in terms of LOYALTY and FRIENDSHIP here, Madam. I really don't.

Nobody can teach you that lesson sir, you either have it or do not and that is the perceived difference you do not get.

You either want to understand what is the reason for the "stupid" American's not buying French products or not,Isn't that why you are here?? You may not agree with us but there is a huge segment of American population with a perception so foreign to your understanding you miss the mark.

Or is it you have come to convince the few of us here to change our ways and love your countries decisions? You can not do that until you understand what you are up against, can you?

As I said before this is not personal to you, but your leaders actions have had some consequences that you either want to understand or not. Some CNN reporter(a company who got caught whoring itself out to Saddam) telling American's to buy French when we have learned to tune out our anti-American press(they did everything possible to elect Kerry) is not going to have much effect. There is a reason for that effect and you are drawn here to understand it or not.

I actually find it nice you are here. You are the first French man to come to Freerepublic that I have seen, when there are so many more from other countries who have come here. So while I would like you to understand where our feelings have come from I am trying hard not to be cruel doing it, nor do I expect it to change you.

Madam, please be assured I did not brought all these wars to lord it over you. I just wanted to underscore that, although your media and our media can and does say otherwise daily, the soldiers of our two republics have fought nearly every modern conflict together, and have never, never been sent to battle against each other.

"What's wrong with Bill Gertz's book?"

From the exceprts I've read here on FR, the book is nothing more but half-truths, srufing on the current anti-French wave. For example, he says that France sold weapons to Iraq after the embargo and even after the beginning of military operations against Iraq in 2003. But his only "proof" is the fact that stockpiles of French-made weapons were found.

Of course they were found ! France was one of Iraq's top weapons providers during the Iran-Iraq war, so I'd be really surprised if NO French weapons had been discovered.
