I've heard that Harold Ford is clean himself and he is one of the few sincere democrats (wrong, but sincere). The comment earlier that he is smarter than Gore is right on. He is in a very Red area, but he won't be an easy victory for us. The good news is that running against a clean and smart democrat, albeit rare, will keep us from becoming complacent.

This is common knowledge in Memphis. I doubt he'll win a senate seat because he's FROM Memphis. Middle and east tenneseeans generally don't like Memphians.

Interesting,
I just checked DU and about half of them don't like Ford. They call him a Republican in disguise.
Someone should send him a link to DU to see not only what they say about him but what the modern dem party has become.
Maybe he'll be more than a Republican in disguise in the future.

Ford will join Senators Tenenbaum, Bowles, Sanders, John, Castor, Cleland, Majette, Clement, and Mongiardo in the alternate universe where promising, hyped-to-the-skies southern Democrats actually win Senate races while George W. Bush is President.

I hope some more dems run and they all beat the hell out of each other.
Like Michigan 94's gubenatorial and senate races.

he is a virulent liberal.... Why is frist retiring in 2006? He has more duty to his country and more is being asked of him.

I always liked him, even though he played a large role in Kerry's campaign for president. He is super-polite and does appear moderate, based on what I've seen of him on Fox. However, when he was on last week, he was asked whether Bush should be given any credit for any successes seen in Iraq. I was very disappointed, because he could not manage to give the President any credit whatsoever.

His time would be better spent bringing his Tennessee relatives into compliance with the law.

I think Harold Ford has a good chance at winning. For the most part, I find him one of the more likable dmeocrats.

Warning from abroad: Harold Ford, out of all the Democrats, reminds me the most of a young Tony Blair. It is clear that he understands much of the Democrats problems in selling themselves to Red States, and that makes him dangerous.

I don't see him winning Tennessee. Ford is a conservative democrat, but a demorat none the less. If elected, he'd toe the line with the rest of the party and Tennesseeans (sp) know it.

I've been warning everybody, this seat is NOT safe. Ford is the best candidate they could run too.
And from what I know, we don't have a Lamar Alexander stature candidate waiting in the wings.
